The Total Lunar Eclipse on 7.9.2025 will be visible all over India. A lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, Earth and moon align, in that order. The type of lunar eclipse depends on how much of the moon passes through Earth’s shadow. When the moon is fully engulfed by Earth’s umbra, a total lunar eclipse, also known as a blood moon, ensues. Lunar eclipse occurs only on a full moon day.
1. Regions where the Eclipse will be visible
This lunar eclipse will be visible in the entire Asia subcontinent, Africa subcontinent, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Antarctica, including India. This eclipse will be visible everywhere in India.
2. Onset of the eclipse
A. Meaning
When the earth comes between the sun and moon its shadow falls on the moon decreasing its radiance. At that time the moon appears blood red. As the shadow of the earth starts falling on the moon, its radiance starts decreasing gradually. This phenomenon is referred to as ‘onset of the eclipse’. When the shadow of the earth encompasses the moon completely it is called a total lunar eclipse.
