Simple Ayurvedic remedies for sound sleep

1. Simple remedies

A. ‘Apply nutmeg sauted in ghee on closed eyelids.

B. Massage palms and soles with oil or ghee using a bronze cup (katori)

C. In 250ml juice of coriander leaves add 250 grams of cubed sugar. Heat on a low flame to make a syrup. Every night before going to bed prepare a sherbet using a little of this syrup with water and drink it.

D. In 200 ml lukewarm buffalo milk add cubed sugar and drink it gradually, one spoon at a time, before going to bed, do not gulp down everything quickly. This remedy also alleviates the lethargy which has appeared during the day.

E. Chop onion fine, add to curd and consume the mixture before going to bed. Those suffering from bronchial asthma should not do this remedy.

F. After dinner consume a mixture of 2 teaspoons evaporated milk (khava), 1 glass hot milk and 1 teaspoon sugar. Since evaporated milk is difficult to digest those with a poor appetite should not consume this.

 

2. Remedies to be done when other
symptoms accompany lack of sleep (insomnia)

2 A. Dizziness caused by increase in wind (vata)

Sleep as you suck the root of Spanish chamomile and extract juice from it.

2 B. Poor vision

Extract 1 litre of juice of chuka (a green leafy vegetable). Boil it with 250 ml of castor oil till only the oil remains. Every night before going to bed apply 1 teaspoon to the anterior fontanelle on the scalp and instill one drop in each eye. This reduces the weakness in the eyes and induces sound sleep.

2 C. An increase in pitta (bile)

When going to bed gradually suck a cup of pure milk ice cream. Do not do it everyday.

2 C 2. An increase in pitta induces blacks outs

Cut a ripe watermelon into half and scrape out all the fruit. Soak it in cold water and use the covering on the head like a cap . Change the cap every hour from 12 noon to 4 pm daily.

2 D. Mental symptoms

2 D 1. Exhaustion induced by mental stress

A. Consume a mixture of 1 teaspoon onion juice, 4 pinches vekhand powder and 1 teaspoon sugar immediately after dinner. This also helps intellectual growth of children.

B. Before going to bed consume a mixture of 5 grams cheese, 3 almonds and 1 tablespoon honey. Continue this for 3 weeks. Those with poor appetite should not perform this remedy. This remedy also helps in improving the memory.

2 D 2. Mental stress

A. Before going to bed consume 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder and 1 teaspoon of nutmeg paste . This can also be consumed along with coffee. Perform this remedy for 7 days then stop for 3 days.

B. Before going to bed take coffee with 1 to 2 teaspoons of cardamom powder and 1 teaspoon of nutmeg paste. This helps in symptoms such as low sexual desire, irritability, intolerance to noise and introversion.

Note

1. After consuming the medicines mentioned above do not eat anything, only gargle with water.

2. Do not consume nutmeg daily as it will create a habit.’
