2. The Cycle of Attachment and Desire

Every individual enjoys various physical pleasures. We love eating our favourite foods, travelling, recreation, and intimacy, etc. Repeating these actions creates deep, lasting impressions in the subconscious mind (called sanskar). Over time, these impressions form strong attachments to worldly objects. These attachments grow stronger day by day. Eventually, the individual begins to realise the physical limitations of the human body. Illness and aging inevitably set in. Despite these changes, the inner desire for happiness never fades. The individual then becomes deeply unhappy. They can no longer experience the same level of physical pleasure as before.

3. Types of sacrifice

A. Benefits of sacrificing one’s body

1. Freedom from attachment and a blissful life

Whenever a seeker serves the Guru or performs seva (service unto the Absolute Truth) by spreading awareness about spirituality in society, the subconscious desire for materialistic pleasures naturally reduces. Consequently, the seeker develops a deep, unshakeable focus on the Guru and seva. This dedication, in turn, sparks an intense desire for further service, which channels Divine energy and God’s grace. As a result, the seeker experiences constant spiritual Bliss,

2. Developing a renunciant attitude

Through constant physical service to the Guru, the latent desire for worldly pleasures steadily diminishes. As the seeker develops this renunciant attitude, they naturally rise above ordinary happiness and sorrow. Ultimately, this liberation allows them to experience a world of pure, uninterrupted Bliss.

3. Reduction of Raja-Tama components

Destiny, negative energies, and external environments generate Raja-Tama components within a seeker. However, seva infuses the seeker with Sattva. Therefore, this spiritual influx directly initiates the reduction of these disturbing components.

4. Attaining good health

When a seeker sacrifices their physical body for the Guru’s mission, the Guru protects that body through subtle, spiritual means. Even if a seeker suffers from severe karmic or destined diseases, the Guru provides the necessary inner strength to bear the distress. Furthermore, through this Divine grace, some seekers successfully regain their good health entirely.

5. Dissolving body-awareness

The human body consists of the five Cosmic Principles: Absolute Earth (Pruthvi), Water (Aap), Fire (Tej), Air (Vayu), and Ether (Aakash). By serving the Guru, the Raja-Tama components reduce, while the Pruthvitattva (Earth element) within the physical body undergoes purification. Consequently, this process dissolves heavy body-awareness, leaving the seeker feeling remarkably light and energetic.

6. Eradicating ego

Instead of chasing temporary materialistic happiness, the seeker focuses entirely on sacrificing their body to serve the Guru. By shifting attention away from personal pleasure in this manner, the seeker effectively reduces and dissolves the ego.

7. Earning the Guru’s grace

By remaining continuously engrossed in serving the Guru or spreading spiritual awareness, the seeker earns the Guru’s invaluable grace. Meanwhile, the Guru’s compassionate vision constantly shields the seeker. Accordingly, all obstacles in the seeker’s spiritual practice are gradually eliminated.

8. Purification of the physical form

Simultaneously, sacrificing the physical body increases the presence of the Divine Principle within the seeker. Because of this spiritual shift, the seeker’s physical form gets purified from the inside out.

9. Awakening Divinity within the body

When a seeker offers their body to God, every physical action becomes an act of worship. This total surrender pleases the Divine. Through God’s grace, Divinity awakens within the seeker’s physical body.

B. Benefits of sacrificing one’s mind

1. Staying focused on your spiritual goal

By continuously offering your mind to God, you keep your spiritual goals at the forefront of your awareness. Consequently, this constant devotion ensures you remember your ultimate purpose: sustaining your spiritual practice and attaining God.

2. Detachment from worldly objects

Constantly remembering the Guru or God naturally reduces worldly desires and restless thoughts. This practice detaches your mind from materialistic objects. Consequently, you remain steady and unaffected by passing happiness or sorrow. This emotional stability prevents you from creating new karmic destiny.

3. Easing the suffering of destiny

Karmic flaws (karmadosha – actions related to our body, sense organs, mind, intellect and ego and the memories and repercussions associated with them) from past and present lives reside deep within the subconscious mind. As a result, they manifest outwardly as physical, mental, and spiritual distress. However, by continuously focusing your mind on God, you reduce the intensity of these flaws. Thereafter, God grants you the inner strength required to make an otherwise unbearable destiny, tolerable.

4. Halting the creation of new karmadosha

Whenever you focus your mind on chanting God’s Name, your thoughts become inherently pure (Sattvik). Therefore, this spiritual alignment naturally restrains you from committing harmful actions. As a direct result, you completely stop creating new karmadoshas.

5. Finding strength to endure deep sorrow

A severe destiny can easily break a person’s spirit. However, constant remembrance of the Divine provides an unshakeable support system. God grants you the power to endure suffering while providing the motivation to live life with genuine positivity.

6. Overcoming spiritual distress

Every person must face past give-and-take accounts and negative energy attacks in this lifetime. Typically, these challenges cause immense physical, mental, and familial distress. Fortunately, chanting God’s Name continuously minimises and eventually eliminates these disturbances entirely. Moreover, no matter how powerful negative forces seem, remember that God is omnipotent.

7. Amplifying mental strength

Our mental energy depletes rapidly when the mind flits between multiple worldly subjects. Engaging your mind in chanting God’s Name halts this daily energy drain. Consequently, your mental strength and focus increase dramatically.

8. Purifying the mind

Alongside chanting, a seeker must actively eliminate personality defects and ego while simultaneously cultivating virtues. Specifically, reducing defects shrinks your restless raja-tama components. Meanwhile, building virtues systematically increases your pure sattva component.

This conscious self-correction purifies the mind effectively and solidifies your spiritual foundation. As these mental barriers dissolve, you pave the way for rapid spiritual progress. Sanatan Dharma places utmost importance on mental purification for attaining God. True purification begins the moment you focus on changing yourself.

9. Awakening spiritual emotion and Divine support

Living in constant communion with God gradually awakens spiritual emotion (bhav). Once achieved, this state allows you to tap directly into the Universal Mind. Accordingly, knowing exactly how to act, speak, and navigate trouble makes your daily life significantly easier.

10. Dissolving the individual mind

Constantly remembering God and actively removing personal defects causes your individual mind to dissolve. Your consciousness gradually merges with the Divine Mind. Once united, you begin to channel Divine thoughts.

11. Achieving a thoughtless state

Offering your mind to God eventually elevates you to a sublime, thoughtless state. In this space, the constant storm of turbulent emotions completely stops, making your life Divine. External ups and downs no longer affect you, and you break free from the bondage of karma.

12. Living in constant bliss

Whether through constant remembrance or a thoughtless state, you can experience absolute bliss in any situation. This profound surrender allows you to feel God’s presence and unconditional love directly within your heart.

C. Benefits of sacrificing one’s wealth

1. Surrendering responsibility to the God

In the current era of Kaliyug, money is absolutely essential for daily survival. Consequently, most individuals become completely dependent upon financial resources. Because a lack of money creates endless hardships, poverty is widely considered a severe destiny. However, when a seeker sacrifices their wealth completely and surrenders to the Guru, a shift occurs. Thereafter, the Guru Himself shoulders the seeker’s responsibilities, meticulously taking care of their every need.

2. Cultivating contentment over indulgence

Accumulating wealth easily triggers restless desires, which inevitably leads to an indulgent attitude. Furthermore, this indulgence inflates the ego, ultimately leaving a person unsatisfied and turbulent. Conversely, when a seeker renounces their wealth step by step, this craving for indulgence naturally diminishes. As a result, their life gradually transitions into a state of deep, lasting contentment.

3. Dissolving life’s obstacles

The moment a seeker begins to sacrifice their wealth, the Guru’s gracious gaze descends upon them. Accordingly, the Guru ensures that the seeker avoids future financial ruin. Indeed, the Guru often resolves these difficulties directly or through subtle spiritual mediums. Even if a seeker faces a sudden financial crisis, the path to a resolution is quickly revealed due to the grace of the Guru. Consequently, the seeker remains perfectly steady because they have the unshakeable backing of their Guru.

4. Settling karmic give-and-take accounts

Every individual carries the weight of several past births. We remain completely unaware of the financial debts we owe to others, or what they owe to us from previous lifetimes. Because so many complex give-and-take accounts exist, people face severe hardships in their current lives. A seeker’s spiritual practice is often spent simply settling these old debts. Fortunately, offering your wealth to the Guru directly accelerates the settlement of these ancient accounts.

5. Earning the grace of Devi Lakshmi

When a seeker willingly sacrifices their material wealth, which is a manifestation of Shri Lakshmi, solely to earn the Guru’s grace, a unique spiritual paradox occurs. Because of this pure intent, Devi Lakshmi’s Divine grace remains permanently with the seeker, ensuring they never truly lack.

6. The reward of absolute surrender

Ultimately, Prana (vitality) is the only baseline requirement for physical survival. Therefore, when a seeker is ever ready to sacrifice absolutely everything for the Guru’s mission without a single selfish thought, their offering becomes supreme. In response, the compassionate gaze of the Guru and God shields them constantly. Consequently, such a seeker makes rapid, extraordinary spiritual progress.

Through the sacrifice of his body, mind and wealth and his readiness for sacrificing everything, dissolution of the seeker’s ego occurs. His accumulated give-and-take account and destiny ends. He attains God and his life becomes meaningful.
