The verdicts in the Malegaon blast, Mumbai 7/11 train blasts, and Dabholkar murder cases have recently been announced. Former Commissioner of Police, Meera Borwankar, made a sensational allegation that there was ‘political interference’ in these investigations. We urge her to disclose the names of those political leaders who interfered, stated Shri Chetan Rajhans, spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha.

He was addressing a press conference at the Kolhapur Press Club. Along with him, the other dignitaries present on stage were – Shri. Ashok Gurav (Coordinator, Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh, Karveer Taluka), Shri. Deepak Desai (District President, Hindu Ekta Andolan), Dr. Manasing Shinde (Sanatan Sanstha), Shri. Niranjan Shinde (Founder, Maharaja Pratishthan), and Shri. Shivanand Swami (Hindu Janajagruti Samiti).

Shri Rajhans further said – These incidents took place during the tenure of the Congress government in Maharashtra. Immediately after Dabholkar’s murder, when the investigation also had not begun, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan had claimed that “the murder was carried out by Godse-inspired elements,” thus directing the course of the investigation. Was this the political interference to which Meera Borwankar is referring to? She also mentioned that ATS chief Hemant Karkare was under political pressure. Did this pressure come from the then CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, Home Minister R.R. Patil, or Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram? She must clarify.

At a program organized by the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (‘MANS’) on Dabholkar’s death anniversary in Pune, Meera Borwankar had said, “Khaki turning green, saffron, or white is extremely dangerous.” We wish to remind her that khaki (the police uniform) should not turn leftist or rightist either. The same MANS has activists who have been arrested for being Naxalites. During the Congress regime, when R.R. Patil was the Home Minister, the Maharashtra Intelligence Department listed MANS among the “organizations aiding Naxalites”. Is Borwankar, as senior police officer, unaware of this? Recently, hardcore Naxalite Prashant Kamble alias Sunil Jagtap was arrested in Raigad; he was an MANS activist. Does she not know this?

Moreover, the Assistant Charity Commissioner of Satara had strongly criticized the MANS trust and recommended appointment of an administrator and a special audit. Is she unaware of this too?

Whether it is appropriate to attend the platform of such an organization or not is a matter anyone can question. However, Borwankar herself admitted she had received “20 phone calls, one of which was a threat,” regarding attending the event. Despite such a serious issue, not a single major news report appeared. Did she even file a police complaint?

In the Dabholkar case, Hamid Dabholkar had sensationally alleged that his father had received threats saying, “We will make you a Gandhi.” This gained wide publicity, but when the matter was questioned in court, he could not substantiate the claim, nor was any police complaint ever lodged. This truth was exposed. The public should draw its own conclusions from these facts, said Shri. Rajhans.
