Sanatan Sanstha seeker Sameer Gaikwad passed away today in a tragic turn of events. We pray to the Almighty that his soul attains Sadgati (highest spiritual state). Sameer was falsely arrested in 2015 in connection to the Comrade Govind Pansare murder case. The murder was committed by two assailants on a motorcycle. The investigating agencies initially claimed that one of them was Sameer Gaikwad. A schoolboy was brought in as an eyewitness; however, within a year, the agencies declared that the two killers were completely different individuals. This essentially meant that Sameer Gaikwad was innocent. Yet, he had to suffer in prison. He was incarcerated for 19 months.

Later, he was out on bail; however, having been implicated in a crime he did not commit had caused immense mental stress to him and his family. “The defamation in the media as an accused in the Pansare murder case was so severe that he faced difficulties everywhere, including in business and employment. The harassment by investigating agencies and the defamation by so-called progressives destroyed the life of this innocent seeker from an ordinary peasant family. Setting aside democracy and individual liberty, Sameer Gaikwad was even denied a lawyer in Kolhapur. He had to face many such atrocities of the system; unfortunately, he passed away today. This is not just a death, but a sacrifice taken by the system,” said Chetan Rajhans, Spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha.

When Sameer Gaikwad was arrested, police did find during the investigation that on the day of Pansare’s murder, Sameer was in Palghar. However, due to pressure, they did not present this fact before the court. While defending himself, Sameer Gaikwad could have brought this before the court, but perhaps that opportunity is now lost. Even today, he is listed as ‘Accused No. 1’ in this case; however, after Sameer was granted bail, the police presented a new ‘theory’ claiming that Sarang Akolkar and Vinay Pawar committed the murder. A few months later, two new names were brought forward again. Sameer became a scapegoat of this flawed investigation. Did the police commit the sin of framing Sanatan’s seekers under the pressure of progressives?

The Sanatan Sanstha family shares the grief of the loss with Gaikwad family. From interactions with the Gaikwad family over time, it was understood that the stress of being falsely implicated in this case was always on Sameer’s mind. His public life was destroyed. He could not get a job because he was labeled an accused in a murder case. Who will compensate for all this? A vile terrorist like Ajmal Kasab gets a lawyer at government expense, and the doors of the Supreme Court are opened at 1 AM for those sentenced to death; but just because he is a Hindu, a seeker of Sanatan Sanstha, and a poor farmer’s son, Sameer is not allowed to get a lawyer. The government moves the High Court to cancel his bail. Under whose pressure did the police submit contradictory evidence in court?
