55 slaughter houses were found to be discharging their sewage without treatment into open drainage system through which it was flowing into nearby water bodies.
The Maharashtra Government has published a dashboard on quantities of sewage daily generated, its treatment and disposal in the jurisdictions of Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils in February 2014. This will make it clear if the water pollution is occurring due to the Ganesh Idols or due to negligence of Government officials.

Goa Pollution Control Board (GPCB) had undertaken study on effect of immersion of Shri Ganesh idols on water from water reservoirs during Shri Ganesh festival of 2015.
Our scriptures say that immersion of Shri Ganesh’s Idol must be done in flowing water or a reservoir. However, some people view the ‘immersion of the Idol’ as an act that causes water pollution, famine etc.
It is inappropriate to immerse Shri Ganapati Idols in provisional tanks because after immersion of Idols in man-made tanks, associated workers remove the Idols even before they dissolve in water.
By immersing the idol in flowing water the Ganesh Principle in the idol also flows and spreads far and wide. With the evaporation of the water charged with the Ganesh Principle, the entire environment also becomes sattvik.
