Bowel movements for less than 3 times a week, dry and hard stools, difficulty in defecation, pain during defecation, and a sense of incomplete defecation are termed as ‘constipation’. Improper eating habits are the main cause of constipation.

1. Measures to be undertaken to avoid constipation

1 A. If you feel a need to defecate, do not ignore it and defecate immediately.

1 B. As per one’s thirst, one should drink at least 8 – 9 glasses of water every day.

1 C. One should exercise every day as per ones’ capacity.

1 D. Include a lot of vegetables and fruits in the diet.

1 E. Avoid drinking coffee.

2. Medicines

2 A. Nux Vomica

2 A 1. Constipation caused by excessive consumption of coffee, tea and alcohol and due to intellectual stress.

2 A 2. Feeling full even after eating little food.

2 A 3. Urge to defecate more often and inadequate defecation after going to toilet.

2 B. Alumina

2 B 1. Constipation caused by consumption of tiny particles of aluminum through the food prepared in the utensils made up of aluminum.

2 B 2. Very hard and dry stools requiring patient to strain with a great effort.

2 B 3. Passage of stools after every 2 days.

2 B 4. Intense inflammatory back pains.

2 C. Bryonia Alba

2 C 1. Dry and hard stools and experiencing burning sensation during passage of stools.

2 C 3. Constantly experiencing dry throat and feeling very thirsty, consuming lot of water after long intervals.

2 F. Sanicula Acqua

2 G 1. Recurrent urge to defecate, but not feeling satisfied after going to the toilet.

2 H. Thuja Occidentalis

2 H 1.  Passing hard, black balls in the stools.
