Ramnathi (Goa) – Now a days art forms which are meant for God-realisation have acquired a form of entertainment. Though most artists use their art for entertainment there are some who despite being in an extremely adverse Raja-Tama environment are heading towards God-realisation due to their intense dedication unto music, that is they are performing art as their spiritual practice. They are the ones who through their art show the way to God-realisation. Two such artists who serve as role models for God-realisation through art, from the alluring material world, forsaking wealth and fame, are famous Kathak dance teacher from Thane Dr. Rajkumar Ketkar (71 years) and famous Bharatiya Classical singer from Dombivali Mr. Kiran Phatak (65 years). Both are devotees of Shri Swami Samarth and have attained Sainthood. Despite severe physical distress Paratpar Guru (Dr.) Athavale was present an informal function held in the Ramnathi ashram on January 26, 2020 where He made this announcement. This news made everyone happy and made them offer obeisance spontaneously.

Sanatan Saint H.H. (Dr.) Mukul Gadgil felicitated both by garlanding with flowers and gifts. Wife Of H.H. Ketkar Mrs. Vaishali and that of H.H. Phatak Mrs. Sanjeevani were given gifts by Sanatan Sanstha’s lady seeker with a spiritual level of 61%, Mrs. Devi Kapadia. The function was compered by Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay Music Section Co-ordinator, Miss Tejal Patrikar, with a spiritual level of 61%.

Thoughts expressed by the Saint duo after the felicitation

Today’s felicitation made me aware of how ancient the
dance form of Kathak is ! – Dance teacher H.H. (Dr.) Rajkumar Ketkar

‘My Guru (Pandit Gopikrishna) would say if you are able to teach who Shrikrushna was through dance, then students will understand His greatness. Today my making spiritual progress through this dance form proves how ancient this Vedic science (vidya) is. This is the greatness of the Guru. I pray to receive the grace of Shrikrushna to be able to make further spiritual progress.

Only those who are blessed with Divine grace are able to
perform spiritual practice through the medium of music – H.H. Kiran Phatak

Bharatiya Classical music is sung wholeheartedly. When with melody from within musical notes too originate, the happiness generated makes every cell in the body dance. Experiencing this is what music is all about ! Only individuals with good destiny and Divine grace can perform spiritual practice through the medium of music. In other words only a devotee of God can turn towards music. Music is a Divine gift and one gifted with this becomes a seeker in this sphere. Now a days thousands learn music but only few become performing artists and if they do they run after wealth and fame.
