Devgad – Dr. Ravikant Narkar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, Mrs. Jyotsna Narkar of Sanatan Sanstha and Shri Ashok Karangutkar visited few Shri Ganesh Idol workshops in Devgad in the context of the upcoming Ganesh festival. During this visit, as part of the campaign of spreading education on Ganesh festival, they apprised the sculptors on the appropriate practices laid down by the scriptures. The sculptors appreciated the campaign undertaken by Sanatan and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and remarked that this awakening will facilitate Hindus to abide by the Dharma.

Shri Dattatray Purushottam Achrekar hailing from Vishnu nagar in Jamsande, has been sculpting Shri Ganesh Idols made only from clay, since past 64 years. This is his traditional family occupation and currently he makes 50 Ganesh Idols for the festival season. Post learnings from the campaign, he gave permission to affix Sanatan’s flex board displaying information on the importance of sculpting Ganesh Idols as per scriptures, in his workshop. When he was shown two holy booklets, one on Shri Ganesh and other on the method of ritualistic worship of Shri Ganesh, he read the matter from these booklets and instantly purchased 50 booklets for gifting them along with the Ganesh Idol. Dr. Narkar narrated about Shri Achrekar’s strong resolve of not to sculpt any Idol from plaster of Paris, even if he is offered huge price for it.

Dr. Narkar visited various Ganesh Idol workshops owned by Shri Ganpat Keshav Varik, Varikvadi, Padel; Shri Babiram Shantaram Malgave, Shevadivadi, Padel; Shri Manohar Vanivadekar and Shri Rane of Sadevaghotan. Mrs. Jyotsna Narkar and Shri Ashok Karangutkarof Sanatan Sanstha accompanied him at the occasion.
