‘In September 2019 the research team of Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay visited different historical and religious places in Karnataka. In the Tumkuru District of Karnataka in Kunigal Taluka the temple of Deity Shri Vidyachaudeshwari at Hangarhalli is highly active spiritually.
The idol of Shri Vidyachaudeshwaridevi
Shri VidyachaudeshwarideviThe idol of Shri Vidyachaudeshwaridevi from the temple is made of an alloy of five metals and is 2.5 feet tall. Shri Shri Shri Balmanjunath Swami gave the following information with respect to the idol of the Devi. Some years ago a Muslim from another village found an idol in his field and came to hand it over to a temple. Before accepting the idol the priest Shri Shri Shri Balmanjunath Swami decided to ask the Devi a question (this ritual is called taking kaul). He placed that idol of the Devi in the middle of a canoe in the lake. Swamiji stood on one end of the canoe and made the Muslim who had found the idol stand at the other end of the canoe. It was decided that Swamiji would accept that idol if the idol moved towards him believing that this was the wish of the Devi. The idol moved towards Swamiji. Hence Swamiji accepted the idol and installed it in the temple.
Unique way of Shri
Chaudeshwaridevi of answering queries of Her devotees
Devotees experience that the temple of Shri Vidyachaudeshwaridevi is highly active spiritually. Devotees can ask questions to Devi in this temple on any day between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all days except Wednesday and Thursday. Many devotees throng here and pray in front of Her. Devotees do not express thoughts or problems to the Devi verbally only keep them in their minds yet Devi understands them. Turmeric powder is spread on a table in front of Devi. The Devi answers questions in their mind thus. Swamiji and a servitor bend the face of the idol of the Devi forwards such that the tip of Her crown touches the table giving answers spontaneously in the form of symbols. Only Swamiji is able to read this and he explains it to the devotee. In this way Devi rushes to the rescue of Her devotees and solves their problems.
