On Gurupurnima day the Guru principle is a thousand times more active than any other day. Hence when one serves God or Guru on this day, one is benefited a thousand times over. Active participation in the preparation and celebration of Gurupurnima brings more spiritual benefits, rather than only passively attending the celebration. This auspicious day presents seekers of God with the unparalleled opportunity to pay their gratitude to the Guru. In truth, the seeker grows spiritually by participating wholeheartedly in festivities by offering his body, mind and wealth for the Guru’s mission of spreading Spirituality.
For example, one can serve God by assisting in the following types of activities on Gurupurnima:
- Helping to prepare Holy sacrament or Prasad.
- Organising/helping in the seating arrangement.
- Cleaning and decorating the venue with flowers and banners about Gurupurnima.
- Arranging various items for the celebration, for example, carpets, mats, chairs, etc., and ensuring that they are put back in their place or returned in a proper condition after the celebration.
- Inviting others to the celebrations
- Offering to drive others to the celebrations
- Offering donations towards the celebration

Special importance must be made to ensure that one is chanting while performing any of the above. This will ensure that all activities are done as service to God and not as a worldly task. With regards to our attitude, it should be that of a servitor serving one’s Master.
For those, participating actively in the celebrations, they benefit in proportion to the level of active participation in it. Naturally, those who come on that day merely to pay their respects (darshan) benefit less. If you are interested in actively participating on this auspicious day, please contact the nearest Sanatan centre.
