Research in modern science limits discovery to the gross aspect, when there exists a whole subtle aspect to our existence. According to the science of Spirituality, every being is made up of five bodies or sheaths, the first of which is the physical and the only sheath that modern science is aware of. The other four subtle bodies are the vital energy body, the mental body, the causal or intellect body, and the supracausal body. These, being subtle, cannot be studied through gross means. Since the centre of our reasoning and actions is subtle, it is a function of the subtle sheaths rather than that of a gross organ like the brain. The brain is a processor on the gross level and only executes the decisions made in the intellect body, which has the ability to reason.
