Clarification of Doubts

In Spirituality, no matter how much theoretical information one has access to, one's spiritual practice will not be smooth unless needling doubts are clarified. If you should have any questions related to spirituality, please email us at Weekly.

Question: Question: Recently, I visited a monastery in my country. There I felt a lot of peace within. I spent most of the time sitting on the stairs next to a spot where a Saint had passed away. At this spot there is a growth of a vine-tendril upon the wall. People say that this vine-tendril is ever young due to this Saint's grace. When I was there I was drawn specifically to a certain place. On inquiring, I found that it was the place that the Saint had left His body. Is there a spiritual reason behind my feeling drawn to that spot and the vine-tendril staying ever young?

- A Seeker.

Answer: Yes, there is a spiritual reason. The energy level in Saints is very high compared to that in an average person, due to Their spiritual level. The energy required for the sustenance of a Saint's body is released after He renounces his mortal life. This energy becomes manifest maximally at the place where He gives up his life and hence, such a place has additional sattvikta (spiritual purity). One is drawn to that place due to its sattvik energy.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • To begin with, one can repeat God's Name according to their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for a list of God's Names as per various religions), or the Name that they feel most comfortable chanting.

  • Interested readers can determine the exact chant for them from the experiment given inIssue 124, Message to Seekers section.
