Spiritual Experiences

Spirituality is a science in which knowledge is attained through spiritual practice and the spiritual experiences (anubhutis) resulting thereof. An experience beyond the five senses, mind and intellect is known as a spiritual experience.

Not being subjected to interrogation by custom officers due to attitude of acceptance that whatever happens, happens as per God's wish

During one trip to India, I wanted to carry a laptop computer with me to continue my seva related to the Internet. Generally, when people arriving from abroad to India carry any sort of electronic item, they face a lot of harassment from the greedy Customs officers. I had decided that if at all I was faced with any problems, I would make an entry of the laptop on the passport. I was mentally prepared to accept that whatever happened would be as per God's wish. As all the passengers were getting cleared through customs, it was apparent that the Customs officers were harassing them. I kept chanting* and listening to His Holiness (H.H.) Bhaktraj Maharaj's cassette on the Walkman and thus remained calm. As my turn came, they allowed me to pass through without any questions. When my bags were scanned they noticed the laptop and asked what it was. On telling them that it was a laptop, they inquired whether I had a return ticket to the US. I replied affirmatively and showed them the ticket. Seeing that, they allowed me to pass through without even asking me to make an entry. This experience reinforced in me the impression of the Omnipotence of God and how he takes care of all His devotees.

[Whenever we make efforts to get closer to God, be it through chanting, listening to the guidance given by Saints, doing service (seva) or surrendering unto them, God will surely remove our obstacles in doing so.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • To begin with, one can repeat God's Name according to their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for a list of God's Names as per various religions), or the Name that they feel most comfortable chanting.

  • Interested readers can determine the exact chant for them from the experiment given inIssue 124, Message to Seekers section.
