Need for Spirituality
Regular spiritual practice for a positive change in a deep-seated attitude
Uri Geller, famous for his mental powers with which he can bend silverware and repair stopped clocks, planned to embark on a five-week trip in a Cadillac (an American luxury car) through the Middle East in 2000, in search of a wider Middle East peace. Riveted to the Cadillac were 5000 pieces of silverware, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic, and Judaic religious symbols, and peace messages spoon-spelled in Arabic, French, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. Geller hoped the car would put a smile on the face of the Middle East. “If something this tacky and show business can happen, then maybe peace can happen, too,” he said.
Major issues such as tension in the Middle East stem from attitudes of intolerance and distrust in the people involved. In order to resolve such deep-rooted problems, the underlying attitudes need to be changed. A person's attitude decides his thoughts, and thoughts in turn decide his actions. Gestures such as making a goodwill statement through a spoon-riveted car, being only at the superficial action level, would change the situation at most at that level. A deep-seated problem requires an equally deep-seated or subtle solution. Regular spiritual practice, being a subtle weapon, works at the subtle level, changing undesirable attitudes permanently in the practitioner. There are various spiritual paths to achieve this end, the most rapid and suitable for the present times is the path of Guru's grace. Repeating God's Name* is the foundation of the spiritual practice according to this path.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.
-
To begin with, one can repeat God's Name according to their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for a list of God's Names as per various religions), or the Name that they feel most comfortable chanting.

Interested readers can determine the exact chant for them from the experiment given inIssue 124, Message to Seekers section.
