Messages to Seekers

Messages for the week ending November 12, 2005

During the prescribed time-slots of chanting*, spend the balance time after circumambulating the idol of Shri Ganesh for 15 minutes, in seva

The distressing energy (DE) troubles faced by Sanatan organization seekers are increasing day by day. To overcome the problem, seekers have been undertaking various spiritual measures/remedies. One of the remedies is to sit for chanting from 7.30 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. During these two time-slots, seekers having DE trouble should circumambulate Shri Ganesh idol or the photograph of His Holiness (H. H.) Bhaktaraj Maharaj for 15 minutes each, instead of sitting for chanting. While circumambulating, they can do ‘nyasa’ on their ‘Adnya-chakra’ and ‘Anahat-chakra’ or ‘Manipur-chakra’, that is, hold the fingers of their hands on these points. Others can take circumambulations with folded hands. The balance time can be spent in doing seva. Seekers having severe DE problems can, during the two time-slots, take circumambulations for a longer time.

While performing rituals and on the occasions
of festivals ladies should wear saris and gents ‘dhoti’

While performing rituals and on the occasions of festivals, the divine consciousness (chaitanya) emitting from and principle of the deities is higher. Since ladies wear saris and men ‘dhotis’ while performing/celebrating such rituals/ festivals, the capacity of their gross as well as subtle (mind and intellect) bodies to draw divine consciousness and principle of deities increases, and they get greater benefit from the chaitanya and principle of the deities.

Increase chanting during menses to reduce distress

It has been observed that there is an increase in the physical and mental distress of female seekers during menses. During this period, there is an increase in the raja-tama levels in the body. Therefore, as per the science, during this time, some restrictions are imposed on ladies like not performing puja, not going to the temple or meditation hall etc.; but ladies can chant. There is no need for being pure/impure for chanting. By chanting, the ‘sattva’ level in the body will increase resulting in a reduction of distress. Female seekers should therefore do as much chanting as possible during the period of menses.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
