Need for Spirituality

People are turning to Spirituality as a means to make the world a better place to live

ABCNEWS.COM reported that a poll showed nine out of ten people want their children to receive some type of religious instruction. The need for something more eternal and permanent rather than temporary, superficial, material achievement, has made most adults, who as children rejected religion, take a keen interest in developing spiritually. Surveys from the 1950s showed most Americans received some form of religious training as children. However, with the intense social changes over the last fifty years, the practice has dropped drastically. Now, interest in Spirituality is surging, and the trend is reversing. People are returning to traditional faiths, trying out new ones and experimenting with different beliefs. One of the reasons for the increasing quest for Spirituality pointed out in the report was growing violence and shootings in schools and families.

It is a fact that only spiritual practice can give us eternal and supreme happiness. An individual, at some point, realizes that the normal material resources that an average man uses are not quenching his thirst for something more enriching and permanent. That is when his quest leads him to discover Spirituality. The other interesting factor is that like America, many other countries are now reaching their immoral zenith, which is forcing them to take some action towards making the world a better place. Since all the worldly means do not provide such a solution, the only option is to turn to Spirituality, which has withstood the test of time, to reinstate righteousness, and thus make the world a better place in which to live.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
