Implied Meaning of Quotes
from Holy Texts and Saints
In Spirituality, an attempt is made to express in words that which is beyond words. Consequently, there is a difference between the literal and implied meanings. Unless we understand the implied meaning correctly, we cannot fathom the treasure of Knowledge given to us by Saints and through the Holy texts. Once a seeker learns how to interpret the implied meanings, it will be easy for him to understand the implied meaning of any scripture.
We suggest that, the readers should try to understand the implied meaning of the following verse on their own and then match it with the meaning given below. This would sharpen their acumen in deciphering implied meanings.
Mechanism of possession
Incident: When Jesus cleanses a man of unclean spirits they come out and plead with Him to send them into the swine.
Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Legion; for we are many." He begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. Now there on the hillside a great herd of swine was feeding; and the unclean spirit begged him, "Send us into the swine; let us enter them." So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine, and the herd, numbering about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and were drowned in the sea.
– The Holy Bible, Mark 5.9-13.
Explanation:
Unless a substitute place is given to impure spirits, they do not leave the person they have possessed immediately. The swine were drowned because otherwise the unclean spirits would possess those who ate it. Pigs have a tama* predominant nature. Hence it is advisable not to eat their meat.
*The tama component signifies ignorance, inertia, and darkness,
which are not conducive to spiritual evolution. [Possession is the phenomenon
of being influenced by a ghost, mane, or other distressing
energy. Since the
aura of various sheaths of an individual is crooked and ill defined, the sheath
of a ghost's desire body, which is a part of the ghost's subtle body, can easily
engulf the individual, thus possessing him. On the other hand, if the aura of
the sheaths is straight and well defined in an individual, it can protect him
from the attack of the ghost's subtle body like the walls of a fortress. The
aura of an average individual is 7-10 mm broad, steady, and has a whitish colour,
while that of a possessed individual is 4-5 mm broad, unsteady, and has a blackish
tinge.]
