Invaluable guidance to seekers from Lord Krishna
Seekers should introspect on mistakes and judge whether they are committing mistakes
or are sinning, so that they can improve
Seekers commit mistakes due to wrong thoughts and wrong actions. Later they state that the mistake occurred inadvertently. Seekers must view such mistakes seriously and try to bring about an improvement in themselves. If a seeker continues to repeat the same mistakes, it amounts to sinning. The following aspects may be studied to know the difference between a mistake and a sin.
| Mistakes | Sins | |
1. Definition |
Wrong thoughts generated in the mind followed by wrong actions, due to ignorance |
Wrong thoughts generated deliberately, followed by deliberate wrong actions, in spite of having knowledge |
2. Improvement |
Possible |
If an attitude of committing sins is formed, improvement is impossible |
3. Forgiveness by God |
Mistakes occurring due to ignorance are forgiven by God |
Sinful actions committed knowingly, are not forgiven by God |
4. Result/fruit |
Spiritual practice is used up to a certain extent; but if the mistake is rectified, spiritual practice increases due to God's grace |
Considered a sinner and deprived of the grace of God and Guru |
5. After death |
Messenger (dev gan) or seeker |
Demon (asur) |
It is evident from the above table that mistakes can be rectified. However, once one begins to commit sinful actions, there can be no forgiveness. Seekers must therefore introspect whether they are committing mistakes or sins. Not following the advice of His Holiness (H.H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale on the daily practice of PDR (personality defects removal) is not considered a mistake, but a sin. All seekers have come together to undertake spiritual practice. While making efforts to acquire the grace of God, if one is not able to obey orders, then at least one should ensure that one does not commit sins. Therefore, seekers should introspect and bring about changes in themselves, as per the Guru’s expectations and qualify for His grace.

Seekers! Spend every moment trying to understand each other
As every moment is precious, rather than thinking about the next moment, spend every moment in increasing spiritual emotion in yourself. To achieve this, spend every moment in trying to understand each other.
The following efforts can be made to imbibe the attitude of understanding each other
- Look at everything with H.H. Dr. Athavale’s perspective.
- Be in the mode of thinking about others rather than about self.
- Help in solving others’ problems.
- Introspect on how much one can do to make the other person happy, through one’s thoughts and actions.
Benefits
- One becomes eligible for God’s/ Guru’s grace.
- One is able to exert control over one’s personality defects and those of others.
If seekers change their thinking and actions, as per the above, rest assured that it will not be long for divinity to be established in their personal lives. Later, due to their intense desire and spiritual emotion, God will establish divinity in their collective (samashti) life as well.

Try to seek the all-encompassing Guru principle in everyone
Seekers must try to find the Guru principle everywhere; in objects and human beings. As the Guru principle is without any attribute, is formless and in the form of ‘Sat-Chit-Anand (Absolute Truth, Absolute Knowledge and Bliss)’, it is active all the time. The activation of the Guru principle depends on the spiritual emotion with which every action is performed. Therefore, impress upon your mind that every action performed is for the Guru.
Benefits
- Purification of the mind: Impressions present in the subconscious mind through several births get erased and the mind is purified.
- Ability to remain in divine consciousness: Wherever the Guru principle is active, there is divine consciousness, so one can get the benefit of remaining in divine consciousness all the time.
- Development of expansiveness: As one feels the presence of the Guru principle in all animate and inanimate objects, one begins to feel love for everything and can reach the stage of unconditional love (priti) for them. In the next stage, one develops the spiritual emotion that the whole world is his and feels in unison with the world.
- Awakening of inner spiritual emotion: The final stage in spiritual emotion is the awakening of inner spiritual emotion, which is in unmanifest form. This spiritual emotion can be acquired only after spiritual practice is done through several lifetimes. However, this kind of inner spiritual emotion can be developed by Guru’s grace, if our every thought and action is performed with the spiritual emotion as mentioned above.
- Ability to go towards ‘nirguna (unmanifest)’ state: Looking at the gross form of the Guru with the spiritual emotion that it is the Guru principle and by following the Guru’s orders, one can progress to the unmanifest state (nirgun principle).
Seekers must therefore, try to seek the all-encompassing Guru principle in everyone.

Offer all your actions (karma) at God’s lotus-feet and get liberated from bondage
Reasons for bondage due to actions
- Taking the doer-ship of the actions..
- Thoughts generated due to impressions in the subconscious mind created in previous lives, and thoughts and actions in the present life.
- Give-and-take account.
Efforts to get liberated from the bondage of actions
- Offering the doer-ship of every action to God.
- Having the spiritual emotion that every thought and action is planned by God.

Seekers should not fall prey to distressing energies’ plans to waste seekers’ invaluable time
In the next four months, seekers will benefit three-fold from every action done with intense desire. The distressing energies will try to dissuade seekers from deriving this benefit by wasting their time.
Distressing energies will do the following:
- Make seekers waste time in unnecessary talk and laughter.
- Urge seekers to roam unnecessarily.
- Create desire to watch T.V. and listen to music.
- Create physical problems and waste time in relaxation.
- Make seekers sleepy.
- Generate unwanted thoughts.
- Bring thoughts to mind of fighting with each other.
Seekers must check whether they are wasting their time in the above things and if so, bring about changes in themselves. Seekers should defeat the aim of distressing energies to spread black energy through the above acts and triumph over them.

Seekers! Do seva with the spiritual emotion that you are doing it for your internal and external purification and not for the sake of the Guru
Seekers! Do seva with the spiritual emotion that you are doing it for your internal and external purification and not for the sake of the Guru. This will result in your doing every action as seva, otherwise every action will be done like a routine task. You try to complete the ‘seva (service)’ given to you; but basically the intention behind giving the seva is not that Guru wants you to do it nor because He will not be able to do it. The Guru principle is Omnipresent and Omniscient ; it can do anything through subtle rather than through gross. The objective behind giving you seva is to remove your personality defects and increase devotion and spiritual emotion through the medium of such ‘seva’ so that you can blend with God. If the seva is not done in this manner, your ego will increase and you will stray; you will drift away from the goal for which you started spiritual practice and get held up in something different. Seva is the medium of attaining Guru/God. Do every act as per the expectations of Guru and strive hard, with intense desire to attain your goal.

Seekers must inculcate the quality of perseverance
- If one does not have perseverance while performing seva then he will not be able to perform it systematically and in a perfect way. The seeker will therefore miss minute details in that seva.
- As a beginning stage on the path of attainment of God, it is necessary for a seeker to do seva. If we do not use the medium provided to us to get closer to Him, then it will take several births for us to go close to Him.
- If we do not give up our inconsistent attitude, we will not be able to inculcate the divine quality of perseverance.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.
-
Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).
-
Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
