Children's Story : Faith in God

One night, a man had a dream. He dreamt that he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. “Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why You would leave me when I needed you most.”

The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

Moral: Dear children, from this story you can see that God only wants your faith in Him and He will take care of you in every way. We all have to live our lives in God, by constantly remembering and thinking about Him. Constantly chanting* His Name is the easiest way to achieve this.

Spiritual experience of a child seeker

Baby of seeker remains tranquil while mother is at satsang

A seeker was thirsty for satsang but had her two-year-old daughter to take care of. This obstacle was overcome, since two other seekers at the satsang took turns to look after little girl during the satsang as their service to God (satseva), so that her mother could focus on the satsang. The little girl was very well behaved throughout the satsang, despite the fact that it was her time to sleep. She had never been as peaceful before, just before her sleep time. She had not slept all day, yet did not pose any obstacle, giving the seeker the opportunity to be peacefully in satsang.

- A seeker.
[Dear friends, when we are in satsang, not only do we experience tranquillity and peace ourselves, but the environment gets spiritually purified as the spiritual level of all present for the satsang increases, thus positively affecting all in the vicinity, as demonstrated in the above spiritual experience.

* Chanting means constantly remembering or repeating God’s Name according to our religion. Young children should also chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye namaha' (Lord Ganesh's chant) for at least 15-30 minutes daily for divine protection. Older children, who have been doing spiritual practice for some time, can determine their exact chant from the experiment in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section. Parents should repeat (chant) The Lord's Name for children too young to do so themselves.
