Faith in God resulted in help from nowhere

Some time ago, we had to ensure that we filled petrol every week, as we had recently started doing pizza delivery for some extra income. One day, although the red light of the fuel gauge made me aware that the car was low on fuel, I decided to fill the tank later. This was because at the back of my mind I knew that I would be able to travel for some more distance without breaking down. The next morning as we went to drop Avantika at her work place, since we had some time on our hands, we decided to do some window-shopping. I then decided to postpone filling the tank until after dropping her off at her work place. When we finished shopping, we barely had a few minutes to get Avantika to work on time. Traffic being very heavy, it slowed us down. Unfortunately, about two kilometers before her office, at a traffic signal, the car began giving way. We became tense, as we knew the outcome of this. As expected, it happened. The car stopped. I could see about twenty cars lined up behind us. People were swearing and cursing. As I tried to push the car to the curb, from nowhere, a man came up to us and offered to help us push the car. He asked us what the problem was, and I told him that we had run out of fuel. Then he said “Looks like you are running late for an appointment. Come, I will give you a lift to get some petrol.” We accepted it, and he took us to the service station and brought us back to the car. He continued to say that he would hang around and help us until we got our car started. Jokingly, he then looked at Avantika and said, “You are pretty and I could kidnap you. In future you would not recognize me but I will because of your complexion.” To this Avantika replied, “We have full faith in God and God has come in your form to help us.” and he replied, “Yes, it is true.” We continued talking for a while and once our car started, we thanked him and parted.

Everything went so smoothly. Avantika was only five minutes late and her co-workers did not mind at all (considering that it was her second day at work). Both of us were chanting* the Lord’s Name all throughout, since morning. We thanked our family deity for helping us through this situation, where normally it is difficult to get help for alien residents in this country. This has been an amazing experience, our faith has strengthened further more. With such happenings in life, how and why should one not do chanting!

[Faith is the currency in Spirituality. Chanting is one of the means by which our faith gets amplified. As evidenced by the above experience, when we chant with faith, God will come to our rescue, further enhancing our faith in Him.

Intense desire and prayer for guidance from Guru principle is answered

I was supposed to call another seeker, Mrs. Shilpa Kudtarkar, from New Jersey, with the results of my introspection regarding a particular incident. My introspection had yielded certain listed points. I was not very keen on calling her about it since there was the feeling that, “What can she tell me about this, that I don’t already know?” So, I prayed to the Guru Principle to flow through her when I called her. However, my mind started wavering again, and this time, I thought, “Even if she does give me some good points that I haven’t thought of already, what is it going to do? It’s going to irritate me, because it’s going to be a correction and not sympathy for my actions.” By God's grace, upon this thought, I started chanting, since I felt that would be the only way to get out of this trap of negative thinking and to really benefit from the conversation with her. After some chanting, I called her. And guess what, it turned out to be one of the best learning experiences of my spiritual journey! This was a real spiritual experience regarding the Guru's power in teaching us over and beyond our imagination.

- Ms. Bhavna Shinde, Reston, VA, (USA)
(2000)

[Prayer and talking to God about one’s problems, as Ms. Shinde did in the above experience, help reduce the ego one might have, since one is asking for God’s help and admitting one’s own shortcomings and inabilities. The less “I”ness, one has, the more receptive to God’s energy one can be.

Chanting, as Ms. Shinde did, helps to reduce the impressions in the subconscious mind, including those that are negative, thereby creating more room for positive thoughts to enter.

Praying and chanting together enable one to receive God’s blessings in greater abundance and to learn from Him, as Ms. Shinde experienced.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one’s current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
