The Ashram

“The ashram is not mine but I belong to the ashram.”

Implied meaning:

The word ‘ashram’ refers to the four stages of life, which an embodied soul (jiva) needs to go through in one lifetime, in order to pursue Spirituality. They are the celibate stage (Brahmacharyashram), householder stage (Gruhasthashram), retired householder stage (Vanaprasthashram) and renunciant stage (Sannyasashram).

‘The ashram is not mine’ means I do not fit into any of the ashrams. I have gone beyond all these four ashrams (that is, attained Final Liberation).

‘I belong to the ashram’ means that I will do everything for all who are in these ashrams.
