Need For Spirituality
Spiritual practice for effective protection
and relief from unknown diseases

A report on a disease called Long QT syndrome was aired on Australian TV in 2001. It showed that Long QT is a devastating disease, wherein the patient’s heart – functioning normally most of the time – spontaneously goes out of rhythm, due to something as seemingly harmless as an alarm going off. According to the National Heart Foundation in Australia, this could sometimes lead to fainting spells and, worse still, sudden death. Despite being increasingly common, most doctors seem to be unaware of the disease’s existence, often misdiagnosing its symptoms of fainting, collapsing, etc. This disease, which kills young people without warning, was hitherto considered hereditary, but there is increasing concern that it could develop in healthy people exposed to certain drugs and chemicals. Some doctors, who recognize the condition as being subtle enough to be easily misdiagnosed, say that it may account for a third of all unexplained deaths in children and young people. Every year, the disease claims between 20 and 230 lives in Australia and as many as 4,000 in the US. A research finding shows that about one in 5,000 suffer from Long QT. It is believed that awareness leading to correct diagnosis is the key to saving future lives, as the disease is easy to treat.

Death, in seemingly healthy youth, especially when sudden and triggered by the most harmless events, is extremely tragic. The problem is worsened when trusted medical professionals are misled by the subtlety of the disease. It only goes to show the inadequacy of modern medical science, which relies solely on gross factors.

According to the science of Spirituality, major events such as grave disease, death, etc., are caused by subtle (spiritual) factors, including Destiny. Therefore, the most effective way to address and minimize them is to complement medical treatment with spiritual treatment, such as spiritual practice. Chanting* is a simple spiritual practice that not only provides divine protection from unforeseen perils like unknown diseases, but is also the most powerful antidote for Destiny. Since chanting can be done anytime, anywhere and along with other activities like eating, walking, etc., it is easy to practice, and one experiences its benefits relatively rapidly.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one’s current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
