Experience of visiting a temple miles away after chanting*

When I learned about the importance of chanting Sri Ganeshaya namaha and Sri Gurudev Datta, I started chanting these two chants from the very next day. One day, as I was chanting Lord Ganesha’s Name, I suddenly felt that I was in front of the Siddhi Vinayak Temple (a famous temple of Lord Ganesh) in Mumbai and could not help crying.

[The above experience shows the seeker’s devotion in calling out to Lord Ganesh that gave her the experience of Lord Ganesh’s presence. One is graced with high level experiences like these even in the initial stages of spiritual practice, if one faithfully pursues appropriate spiritual practice like Mrs. Pillai did by practicing immediately what she had learned.

Divine guidance in translation

Ever since I have started translating the publications of the Sanatan organizationinto my native language, I noticed several things that are nothing short of miracles. Firstly, I was traveling constantly since I started the translation and could not carry the heavy dictionary on me. In order to translate well, most of the time all I do is look at His Holiness Dr. Jayant Athavale’s photograph and talk to the Guru Principle to give me the equivalent word in my native language for a difficult English word. Shortly afterwards, I get the equivalent word that I rarely ever use in speaking or writing my native language! Sometimes, after translating I cannot even remember what I translated. This reiterates to me that God is getting the translation done from me. I also notice that the translation continues very smoothly if it is commenced with a prayer to the Guru Principle, to surrender my will at God’s Feet and to let Him extract out of me whatever is important to get His work done. I have also noticed that just the desire to serve The Lord makes the service happen.

- A Seeker.
[The above experience shows that if one sincerely yearns to serve God, service takes place from one even in the absence of any abilities to render that service. The only quality essential to serve God is devotion or the yearning to serve Him.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one’s current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
