Spiritual experience of a child seeker

Being able to remain calm and perform well in school exams, after chanting*

Mid terms had started. It has been some time since I was introduced to chanting God’s Name, through the children’s satsang conducted by the Sanatan organization. The difficult part of mid terms is that most children let the exams get to them, and this hampers their performance in the exam. Chanting helped me overcome this anxiety. Just before the test, usually all children try to grasp as much as possible. Instead, this time, I chanted as I went to school and walked up to the classroom, and till I was handed the test. This helped me remain calm during the exam and perform better in it.

- Master Nilesh (14 years old), New Jersey, USA.
[Dear friends, we often get nervous and panicky just before an important school test. Due to the panic we can mistakes even if we knew the proper answers to the test, and thus, do not do as well in the test as we could have. The experience of Nilesh above shows how chanting helps remove the unnecessary worrying. Chanting or continually calling on God brings God’s purity to us and thus, we can think clearly and calmly as Nilesh did in his school exams.

* Chanting means constantly remembering or repeating God’s Name according to our religion. Young children should also chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye namaha' (Lord Ganesh's chant) for at least 15-30 minutes daily for divine protection. Older children, who have been doing spiritual practice for some time, can determine their exact chant from the experiment in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section. Parents should repeat (chant) The Lord's Name for children too young to do so themselves.
