| USA. Some time ago, there were
news reports on Carl Joseph, a roaming preacher originally from Toledo, Ohio.
He called himself ‘What’s your name’ and walked from town to
town, barefoot, wearing a white flowing robe, long hair, and a beard. It was
reported that he was apparently trying to spread the message of peace, love and
good will. Many people thought that he was dressed like Jesus. Some news channels
interviewed him personally. When asked if he thought that he was the Christ,
he would answer in the negative, saying, “I’m just a sinner, just
a man; just following a simple path.” He, however, said that he is one
of God’s messengers, spreading the message, “Love one another.” He
did not have a church, not even a home.
The man known as ‘What’s your name’ had started preaching
to anyone who would listen. When he had appeared on a local TV show, many people
phoned in to talk to him. The crowds following him got bigger. People reached
out to him wherever he went. Some miracles, too, were attributed to him. When
asked if he can perform miracles, he had replied, “If there is healing,
that comes from God; only God Himself could do that.”
There were also many, who were cynical about ‘What’s your name’.
They questioned his ways and motives. They thought that he was hoodwinking people. |
