Story for children: The Kingdom of God

Once King Akbar asked his prime minister, Birbal, “Who is greater, me or God?”

Birbal was very clever. Without hesitation, he answered, “You are, Your Majesty.”

Though the king was flattered, he asked, “How can that be?”

“Your Majesty, if you do not like someone, you can banish him from your kingdom very easily. However, how can God banish anyone from His Kingdom? Where can He send him? The whole universe is God’s Kingdom!”

Moral: Dear friends, this story reminds us of God’s glory and His love. There is no king as powerful and merciful as God. He has created the whole universe and accepts us as we are. He loves us, even if we forget Him. We can pay gratitude to God by remembering Him continually through chanting* His Name.

Spiritual experience of a child seeker

In the presence of spiritual seekers, no shyness in a shy two-year-old child

My daughter Maitreyi, when two years old, was very shy around anyone that she met for the first time. She would not say anything at all when they were around. When I was in Aurangabad, India some time ago, I needed to buy some books on Spirituality, published by the Sanatan organization. So, I, along with my daughter, went to visit the residence of Mr. Deshmukh, a seeker, who keeps a stock of Sanatan organization’s books at his residence there. Mr. Deshmukh had come to pick us up in his car. On our way, surprisingly, my daughter was very happy and comfortable. She started singing her favorite rhymes. This really astonished me, as she was meeting Mr. Deshmukh for the first time. I, too, felt as if I had known all the seekers in India all my life, even though I was meeting them for the first time.

- A seeker, USA.
[Dear friends, we feel comfortable around someone we know and love. This experience of the two-year-old girl and her mother shows how we feel comfortable around seekers, even if we have never met them before. This is because all seekers have the same aim, which is to go close to God, so they are all a part of God’s family. That is why, even if we meet a seeker for the first time, we feel comfortable, as if meeting someone from our family. Daily prayers and chanting* God’s Name, helps us become a part of the loving family of God.
- Editor.]
* Chanting means constantly remembering or repeating God’s Name according to our religion. Young children should also chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye namaha' (Lord Ganesh's chant) for at least 15-30 minutes daily for divine protection. Older children, who have been doing spiritual practice for some time, can determine their exact chant from the experiment in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section. Parents should repeat (chant) The Lord's Name for children too young to do so themselves.
