Need For Spirituality
Studying the science of Spirituality to pursue true Spirituality

A few years ago, over two hundred members of a Ugandan Doomsday cult set themselves ablaze, taking their lives in one of the world’s biggest ritual mass suicide. These members were followers of the obscure ‘Ten Commandments of God’ sect. It was reported that they had gathered in a church southwest of the capital Kampala. There they set themselves on fire after several hours of hymn singing.

Omniscience, which is the ability to perceive all, Omnipotence, which is being all-powerful, and Bliss, which is supreme and everlasting happiness, are the characteristics of the God Principle. Hence, realizing God would mean acquiring these characteristics. However, due to ignorance about the science of Spirituality, many seekers are misled into acts that take them away from God. The science of Spirituality explains that one can only try to uplift oneself spiritually, when one is in human form. So, ending the very life that could be utilized in truly progressing spiritually would not be a practice of any spiritual pathway.

It is clear from the above incident how important it is to study and understand the science of Spirituality oneself. It is also important to educate spiritually inclined people on the science of Spirituality and individual spiritual practice*.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
