Overcome opposition with prayers and chanting*

Presently, distressing energies are using various methods to take seekers away from spiritual practice. They are creating an atmosphere whereby seekers are facing a lot of opposition at home against pursuing spiritual practice. Some of our young seekers are facing great resistance from their parents, and ladies from their husbands. At such times, seekers should put emphasis on prayers and chanting, rather than verbally fighting the opposition. With increase in our spiritual power, at home the raja-tama (negative) components will reduce and bring about change in the attitude of family members, and also in their opposition.

Seekers do not be complacent that it is
Guru’s resolve (sankalp) but exercise your willful action

When His Holiness (H.H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale talks about the spread of His mission, some seekers take it for granted that it is His resolve. They feel that since it is His resolve, one need not do much. Everything happens as per God’s plan. Depending on the intense urge of a seeker, God gives the appropriate reward. 50% of the Sanatan organization’s mission of spreading Spirituality is accomplished through its books. As the books published by the Sanatan organization explain spirituality and other related subjects in a scientific manner, the curious (jidnyasu) come for satsangs. If the satsang conductor is not able to develop closeness with the curious individuals or conduct satsangs effectively, they (the curious) stop attending. Some seekers claim that they do not have points on ‘Rashtra (Nation) and Dharma (Righteousness)’ to discuss in the satsangs; however, the daily and weekly Sanatan Prabhat are just like real discourses on ‘Rashtra and Dharma’ reaching people everyday. Seekers should therefore read these periodicals from the viewpoint of study. They should also study the Sanatan organization’s publication on ‘Social Upliftment, National Security and Rekindling Righteousness’. This study will help seekers to clarify doubts raised by curious individuals and explain points in satsangs. Seekers should therefore use their willful action for spreading the Sanatan organization’s mission.

Seekers sacrifice your body, mind and wealth and
make others do the same on the occasion of Gurupurnima

Gurupurnima is celebrated once a year. On this day, the Guru-principle is one thousand times more active than any other day of the year. Every seeker should try to get maximum benefit from this, from the viewpoint of his spiritual progress. To get benefit means that we must start sacrifice of the body, mind and wealth right from today. Seekers feel that since Gurupurnima is on July 21, 2005, there is still a lot of time, and are not making efforts towards sacrifice of their body, mind and wealth. The point to remember is that life is limited and the days ahead are going to be very difficult. Therefore, to get maximum benefit from the heightened activity of the Guru-principle on the day of Gurupurnima, we must start sacrificing our body, mind and wealth from today. Increase your efforts, make use of your holidays to spread our mission and get one thousand times the benefit.

Remember that such efforts are to be made by oneself and others, so start planning accordingly.

On the occasion of Gurupurnima, pay more
attention towards seekers’ collective spiritual practice

Individual spiritual practice is of 30% importance whereas collective spiritual practice is of 70% importance. Considering the same, while making plans for celebrating Gurupurnima, pay more attention towards seekers’ collective spiritual practice. There are still two and a half months to go. It is necessary to increase propagation of Spirituality (prasar) and satsangs, and contact the maximum number of individuals curious about Spirituality.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one's current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
