Feeling connection with God after chanting* Mother Mary’s Name

After I attended the Sanatan organization’s introductory lecture on Spirituality, I decided to try the spiritual practice of chanting as recommended in the lecture. I learned from the lecture that, according to the science of Spirituality, we have to chant the Name of the divine principle worshipped in one’s religion. Hence, being a Catholic by birth, I started chanting ‘Hail Mary’. I continued chanting for a month and felt spiritually connected. However, since I was not a practicing Catholic, I had a doubt about whether I was chanting the right chant. Hence, I changed the chant I was chanting. However, when I did so, I realized that I did not feel as connected as I felt when chanting Mother Mary’s Name. Therefore, I switched back to the original chant and once again, started feeling spiritually connected. This experience made me realize that when spiritual practice is done in accordance with the science of Spirituality, one actually makes noticeable spiritual progress.

[The above experience shows the importance of doing spiritual practice as per spiritual principles or the science of Spirituality. Just as following material principles, rules or laws is necessary for success of worldly transactions, so also studying and following the principles or science of Spirituality is necessary for spiritual progress.

Experiencing the balanced state of the mind after doing the appropriate spiritual practice

I had heard and read much about the balanced state of mind and tried to imagine what it would be like. Reading had helped me intellectually understand it. However, after undertaking actual spiritual practice under the Sanatan organization’s guidance, I actually experienced the balanced state of mind. It is very different from what I had imagined.

- A seeker, Atlanta, USA.
[This experience shows that no amount of reading or intellectualizing about something can impart its actual experience. One has to put a teaching into practice before it can be actually experienced. Especially Spirituality, being a subtle science experienced only with the subtle senses, is a science of actual practice and experience.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one’s current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
