“Spirituality is for those who are interested in it.”

Notions that "Spirituality is of no use to us" or “Spirituality is for those who are interested in it,” are actually misconceptions about Spirituality. Such notions arise from a lack of understanding what Spirituality really stands for and its all encompassing effect. Many feel, "Let only those who have a liking for Spirituality, study it."

The below points will help see the fallacy behind such thinking.

The ultimate aim behind every action of any living being is to attain a higher level of happiness. To achieve this, besides trying everything to attain happiness, an individual also continually strives to overcome the impediment in happiness, namely, problems or unhappiness.

According to the science of Spirituality, unhappiness in a person's life is caused by a combination of the following:

    1. Physical causes

    2. Psychological causes

    3. Spiritual causes

On average, 20% of the causes of unhappiness are physical and psychological in nature. The remaining 80% of one's problems are caused purely or partly by spiritual factors (that is, factors beyond one's gross comprehension). In other words, out of every five unhappy individuals, four can acquire happiness by doing spiritual practice. So, four out of five individuals among one's family, relatives and friends definitely need Spirituality. Even if one is not interested in the science of Spirituality or in spiritual progress, etc., for one to be happy or at least to reduce one’s problems or unhappiness, one definitely needs to be aided by Spirituality or spiritual remedies.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, or to complement one’s current spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion. Chanting also acts as a useful complement to any spiritual path one may be already following. It is a practice recommended for the current times by Holy texts and Saints of all religions.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
