Need For Spirituality
Spreading Spirituality in a modern, scientific* manner essential

USA. A few years ago, there was an experiment undertaken inside San Francisco Theological Seminary. Mark Yaconelli, a pioneer in youth ministries, was introducing young people to something that he believed they were missing in their homes and churches: Spirituality. What young people long for is not to be preached about God, Yaconelli felt, not to be preached about the spiritual life, but to get a chance to taste it for themselves. So with a $600,000 grant from the Lilly Endowment, Yaconelli brought teams of high school students to the Seminary to introduce them to the ways that first century Christians connected with God. The students took spiritual pilgrimages just like the early Christians did. They learned to pray and meditate. The students also participated in ancient rituals like foot washing, which the Bible says that Jesus Christ did for His disciples to illustrate humility and service.

The fact that more and more educated youth are turning to Spirituality indicates that Spirituality has passed the test of time. It also means that worldly pursuits do not result in supreme everlasting happiness, that is, Bliss.

In keeping with the present times influenced greatly by a scientific approach, it is essential to guide youth about Spirituality in a modern, scientific* manner. This will help the youth relate to spiritual principles, and apply it in daily situations and challenges. This will ensure that the youth’s progress on the spiritual path is rapid, preventing them from getting disillusioned with Spirituality, which generally happens as a result of slow or no progress on the spiritual path.
