New seeker experiences spontaneous chanting* in sleep

Ms. Cutchen has been attending spiritual meetings every week for the last three weeks, since moving here from Puerto Rico temporarily. She came after being told about it by another seeker at a yoga retreat. Her existing spiritual practice till date has been meditation. Here is an experience she had after she started chanting:“On the night of January 17, 2005, I woke up around 2 a.m., thinking I had a fever. At that time, I noticed that the chanting* from the spiritual meeting I had attended was going on in my head automatically. On any given day, I cannot chant the correct tune or words to save my life, yet it was happening on its own that night!”

- as told to fellow seekers by Ms. Cutchen, Ft. Collins (CO), USA.
[The above experience shows how chanting helps maintain continuity in one’s existing spiritual practice, such as meditation. It also shows the far-reaching effects of chanting. In this case, the seeker found it difficult to get used to the chant verbally. However, since she still persevered with chanting, it reached her subconscious mind and occurred spontaneously in sleep.

Stress at work relieved after chanting* aloud

On January 10, 2005 I agreed to do some work, which I was not happy about. For the next few days, I felt worse and worse about it. Finally, later in the week when I had to do the work, I was rebelling and felt very burdened. Instinctually I began chanting at work - aloud. I never chant aloud. However, I did so this time and shortly felt a huge buden being lifted from my shoulders.

- as told by seeker Ms. Delany,
in a spiritual meeting held by the Sanatan organization in Ft. Collins (CO), USA.
[One may have experienced the kind of stress felt after agreeing to do something that one could not refuse due to various reasons. The above experience shows how chanting can relieve such negative emotions almost immediately.

* Refer to Issue 23, Clarification of Doubts section for details about the mechanism of the mind and that of chanting (repeating God’s Name). If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).

  • Seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
