Spiritual experience of a child seeker

Positive change in a child attending a children’s spiritual workshop

It is the practice in our culture to pay respect to elders by touching their feet. In order to teach values to my children, I used to ask my eight-year-old son, Bhushan, to pay respect to elders by touching their feet upon greeting them. However, Bhushan would do so only after my telling him. This changed ever since he started attending the children’s spiritual workshops held by the Sanatan organization. Ever since, he religiously pays respects to elders on his own. In general, he has become more obedient and respectful ever since.

-- Mrs. Sunita Sachdev, Faridabad, India.

[Parents all over the world often wonder how to go about teaching values to children, especially when the children are continually bombarded with negative images from TV and other media. The above experience shows the benefits of including spiritual practice such as chanting* and children’s spiritual workshops in a child’s routine.

- Editor.]

* Chanting means constantly remembering or repeating God’s Name according to our religion. Young children should also chant 'Om Gan Ganapataye namaha' (Lord Ganesh's chant) for at least 15-30 minutes daily for divine protection. Older children, who have been doing spiritual practice for some time, can determine their exact chant from the experiment in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section. Parents should repeat (chant) The Lord's Name for children too young to do so themselves.
