Feeling intense spiritual emotion at the venue of Bhav Satsang*

On the afternoon of June 4, 2004, I went to the Sanatan organization’s satseva center in Melbourne for the Bhav Satsang. The moment I entered the room where the satsang was to be held, I was filled with such spiritual emotion that I thought my heart would burst. Tears sprung to my eyes and kept running down my face through most of the satsang. I moved to the Temple room in an attempt to control myself, but felt the intense spiritual emotion there also. I have also experienced this intense spiritual emotion when I am praying in Church.

During the chanting and prayer sessions of bhav satsang, my eyes closed automatically and I felt like I was transported in another plane of light. When having to reopen my eyes during the lecture, I felt a tug and shift to my conscious level and had to re-adjust my vision to the light in the satsang room. The bhav satsang has increased my devotion. Thank you, Holy Mother.

[Spiritual emotion means love for God. When spiritual practice is done with intense love for God in any place, the atmosphere of that place becomes Holy and pure (sattvik). In the above spiritual experience, the seeker felt intense spiritual emotion the moment she entered the spiritual discourse (satsang) venue. This indicates the spiritual emotion of the seekers living and doing spiritual practice there. Flowing of cool tears is one of the eight expressions or manifestations of spiritual emotion. During tears of spiritual emotion, the seeker feels Bliss, unlike when we cry with grief. As a seeker of God, our aim is to feel such spiritual emotion at all times.

*Although the seeker in the above experience felt awakening of spiritual emotion because of the purity of the atmosphere, one need not always be in an ashram or satseva center to experience the same from a bhav satsang. In fact, bhav satsangs can be conducted even if one is alone at home. Bhav satsangs commenced in June 2003 with Sri Durgadevi’s resolve and are going on under the guidance of His Holiness (H. H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale.

Feeling spiritual emotion for a horse after intense desire to feel spiritual emotion for everything

One evening I was driving home from work, chanting* as usual. I happened to stop at a traffic light and that coincided with my prayer break as well. One of my prayers has been to ask God to help me view each and every object and everyone with spiritual emotion. At this traffic light I said this prayer.

My car happened to be next to a horse carriage. On seeing the horse carrying the carriage and the people in it, my heart went out to him in spiritual emotion. I noticed how well he is serving and doing his assigned duty. I also happened to notice the way the horse was standing. He was standing exactly the way I generally stand, with one foot always slightly above the ground, which is quite peculiar. I found this to be something that we had in common and mentally voiced it to the horse. To my amazement he turned his head and looked right at me as though he had heard what I was mentally saying to him. Though he had his blinders on, he struggled till he could see me clearly.

Through this I learned that we all are connected when we view everything and everyone with spiritual emotion. One goes beyond the gross medium of words, and is graced with the vision to see God in all things.

[God has created everything and exists in everything – both animate and inanimate. However, to experience this, one needs spiritual emotion and divine vision, as glimpsed by the seeker in the above experience. Then one realizes the similarity, rather than the outward differences, that exists in all His creation. In the above spiritual experience, the seeker could experience this truth and also communicate with the animal after sincere, specific and regular prayers. Such prayers help develop spiritual emotion in any activity, spiritual or worldly. Refer to Issues 206 through 214, Spiritual Practice for Awakening Spiritual Emotion section for practical suggestions on and examples of prayers.

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).
  • Those seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
