Feeling the presence of His Holiness (H.H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale after doing service with surrender

We got a call from a seeker to inform us that the bhav satsang was to be conducted at our residence. I had much work to do. I immediately prayed to H.H. Dr. Athavale to please help me to keep my cool and to help me to finish my work right on time to welcome the seekers. I had full faith in Him and my work was done on time for the bhav satsang and I was also able complete my chanting*. While singing devotional hymns (aarti or ritual of waving lit lamps), I could feel the presence of H.H. Dr. Athavale and I could see Him seated in the chair instead of His photograph, which was placed on that chair.

After the aarti I went into another room with my 1-year-old son, as he wanted to play and the noise may disturb the bhav satsang. While the collective chanting of Sri Durgadevi was going on, unknowingly one part of me was pleading to H.H. Dr. Athavale and to Sri Durgadevi that I wanted to be a part of the group outside and do the collective chanting there. The very next moment, Mr. Sean Clarke (another seeker) came to the room. He told me to go do the chanting and that he would play with Nakul (my son). The strange thing was I did not see Mr. Clarke, but H.H. Dr. Athavale instead! I was overwhelmed with gratitude and bowed to Him. After the Bhav Satsang, I told Mr. Clarke about my spiritual experience and he said that he suddenly got a thought to relieve me and play with my son instead. He said he immediately acted upon the thought. Even while writing this spiritual experience I experienced the same spiritual emotion.

[Faith is the working currency in Spirituality. Only if we have full surrender and faith, will God come and rescue us. In this case, when faced with many tasks, the seeker first turned to God with full faith to help her. As a result of her faith, the seeker was immediately helped and could do everything on time. Further, she was graced with the spiritual experience of actually experiencing H.H. Dr. Athavale’s presence.

Seeing H.H. Dr. Athavale in everything after simply narrating obstacles to Him

A few weeks ago, in the morning after singing devotional hymns (aarti), I said a prayer to His Holiness Dr. Athavale. I simply narrated to Him my obstacle that I don’t feel His presence once I leave home for work, and that I feel totally disconnected from spiritual practice and God until my return. That day I caught a train to go to work and as I got off at my station, saw H.H. Dr. Athavale in every single person I saw in the station. At first, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The station was full of people and all I saw was a thousand images of Him all over the station. As I came out of the station, I could see Him in the sky and in the footpath (sidewalk) also. All day at work I experienced Bliss. I did not even realize how the day went by, since I was immersed in the Bliss of feeling H.H. Dr. Athavale’s presence through out.

[Most people know that the workday is busy, slow or sometimes even stressful. However, this seeker experienced Bliss through out a mundane workday. It shows the importance of simply and sincerely “talking” to God, or one’s symbol of faith, about whatever is on the mind, with the faith that He is listening. This type of effort made is one of the nine-fold types of devotion and is called ‘narrating to God’ (atma-nivedan).

* If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).
  • Those seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
