Practical Guidance
    H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale conducts weekly satsangs in the various centers of the Sanatan throughout India. These encompass several topics, such as spiritual practice, Saints, Deities, the science of Spirituality, etc. Below are some of the points He shared with seekers in a recent satsang.
The spiritual emotion (bhav) of seekers
from the subtle region of Bhuvlok

Just as Sanatan conducts satsangs for seekers on earth, satsangs are conducted for seekers belonging to the subtle regions in the universe.

During a satsang, some seekers from subtle region of Bhuvlok did not sit on chairs when the guiding seeker was present, as a mark of respect for the guiding seeker.
We can also learn from the way they assist each other in spiritual practice. They remind each other about chanting*, prayers and satseva.
In one satsang, a Bhuvlok seeker said: “I want to admit my mistake. I would pray to His Holiness (H. H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale subtly, but not with gross expression, such as folding hands. I should be like seeker Dr. Mrs. Nandini Samant (a seeker of Sanatan), who always folds her hands while praying.” This shows an attitude of accepting one’s mistakes and wanting to improve.
Another Bhuvlok seeker said: “H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale’s words will always come true. It is impossible that something that He has said will not happen.” This shows faith of the seeker in the Guru.
Another Bhuvlok seeker expressed his sadness and said, “Although I have been performing spiritual practice for a month, why have I been unable to reach Lord Shiva?” (When seekers from the subtle region of Bhuvlok make spiritual progress, they experience closeness with Lord Shiva.) Seekers should experience such despair for not being able to perform spiritual practice or not experiencing progress. This shows intense motivation, the most important virtue for spiritual progress.

See the section Spiritual Practice for Destroying Ego in this issue for more information on seekers from Bhuvalok.

*If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).
  • Those seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
