Messages to Seekers
For the week ending July 10, 2004
Messages to Seekers
Do not chant* in events like satsangs, guidance satsangs, meetings, etc.
Some seekers focus on chanting using a rosary (mala) or even try to meditate during satsangs, guidance and meetings. An average seeker is not capable of focusing on several things at once; he can have his attention on only one thing at a time. Hence, if one focuses on chanting during satsangs, guidance or meetings, it is not possible for him to pay attention to the topics there in. As a result, the amount of mistakes in satseva increases. Therefore, seekers should pay attention to the discussed matter and try to understand it properly.
According to the times, pronounce ‘Shri’ as ‘Sri’
While chanting, if there is a ‘Shri’ in the name of a deity, pronounce it as ‘Sri’. ‘Shri’ is a Sanskrit word and if it is pronounced scientifically, its full energy comes alive in a proper manner.

Given this, one may ask why we should pronounce Shri as Sri. The reason is as follows: it is essential to do anything according to the times. It is beneficial to pronounce ‘Shri’ during times of peace and prosperity. However, presently times are difficult and full of conflicts and hostilities, it is sort of an emergency situation. There is an alarming increase in the distressing energies and the number of evildoers who are a threat to us. Pronouncing ‘Sri’ provides immense strength and power to fight against such bad people and energies.

Seekers may first pronounce ‘Shri’ repeatedly ten times and then ‘Sri’ ten times. Surely, they, too, will perceive the increased energy while chanting ‘Sri’, than ‘Shri’.

His Holiness (H. H.) Bhaktaraj Maharaj (Baba) tells me,
‘Pray with caution, since the law of Karma applies to incorrect prayer’
On April 15, 2004, after I prayed to H. H. Baba, He told me, “One should pay attention to what one prays. The Law of Karma applies to prayers so if one prays incorrectly, then one has to endure its outcome; as the Lord’s energy is used for an incorrect purpose.”

Writing and forwarding Spiritual experiences is
akin to expressing gratitude towards the Guru
Seekers get various kinds of spiritual experiences (anubhutis) as an acknowledgement of their efforts to pursue spiritual practice. Distressing energies are also continuously trying their best to bring about obstacles in spiritual practice. A seeker gets both these experiences in his journey of Spirituality.

Gurupurnima is the day of expression of one’s gratitude towards the Guru and also a divine opportunity to maximize upon the benefits of one’s spiritual practice. Since the Guru principle is 1,000 times more active on Gurupurnima, the benefit of satseva and sacrifice done during this period is a thousand-fold. If one attempts to achieve something, one is bound to encounter obstacles and difficulties. However, to overcome the obstacles and march ahead on the chosen path is itself one’s spiritual practice. It is therefore necessary that one does not allow satseva to suffer. One has to get the Spiritual experience that the Guru is always behind us to give us strength in this battle.

Writing and forwarding one’s spiritual experiences and troubles is akin to expressing gratitude towards the Guru. The spiritual experiences we get in our satseva, in addition to our vigorous efforts to overcome distress, can be a source of inspiration for other seekers in their spiritual practice. In a way, by sharing spiritual experiences, one is doing collective (samashti) satseva.

Points to be noted while forwarding
seekers’ spiritual experiences or troubles
The date and time must be written at the beginning of spiritual experiences, as follows:

a. Mention of Date:
    Wrong: Date 27/7/2003;     Correct: 27.7.2003

b. Mention of time:
    Wrong: At 8.30 on 27.7.2003;     Correct: At 8.30 a.m. on 27.7.2004

c. At the end of the spiritual experience, the full name of the concerned seekers, along with proper prefix such as Mr., Mrs., Miss, etc., should be written. Mention of center and district should also be made.

    Wrong: Poonam Jadhav, Chinchvad.
Correct: Miss Poonam Jadhav, Chinchvad, Dist. Pune.

Avoid speaking to Deities through subtle medium
The mantriks (practitioners of mantra) from the sixth and seventh levels of Hell are inflicting distress on seekers. They give seekers ‘visions’ by taking illusory forms. Of late, the mantriks have started taking the form of deities and are trying to strike up a conversation with seekers. Seekers are likely to think these illusory forms of mantriks are the true forms of deities and are therefore deceived easily. Taking full advantage of the situation, the mantriks are trying to cast a spell of black energy on seekers to cause distress. The illusory mantriks are also deceiving seekers by creating good vibrations. Seekers are therefore advised to focus vigorously on their chanting and satseva and thus increase spiritual practice. They should not get entangled in such spiritual experiences.
Seekers, try to imbibe kshatravrutti (fighting spirit) like Lord Rama
While in exile in the forest, Goddess Sita said to Lord Rama, “You carry the bow and arrow constantly with You. Will it not develop the attitude of a thoughtless killer in You?” Lord Rama replied, “If I do not do it, then my kshatravrutti (fighting spirit) will be destroyed.”
Give importance to following guidance,
rather than questioning who gave it
According to the time, from June 10, 2004 guidance has been given to chant the Name of Lord Krishna instead of Sri Durgadevi's Name. Many seekers inquired whether Sri Durgadevi had advised the change of the chant. His Holiness (H.H.) Dr. Jayant Athavale, according to the need of the hour and due to the increase in the distress caused by the distressing energies, has in fact advised this change. Ever since the trouble of distressing energies has begun, H.H. Dr. Athavale has been advising chants from time to time. H. H. Dr. Athavale had also advised the collective chanting of Lord Ganesh and Lord Krishna.
Send only certain types of spiritual experiences
Seekers in charge should send spiritual experiences of seekers only after proper selection. Spiritual experiences of various types have been published and studied so far. Therefore, avoid sending similar types of experiences. For example, experiences like perceiving yellow light emanating from God, feeling peaceful, perceiving subtle fragrance, etc., should be avoided. Instead, if one experiences something special during chanting, then those should be sent to the Sanatan organization’s Dainik Office in India.
If one’s worldly obstacles increase after doing spiritual practice, then realize that these obstacles are due to a spiritual problem, and continue spiritual practice, since it is the only solution
One of the active seekers in a district stopped doing satseva for three months. On contacting him, he said, “ When I start chanting my legs start aching, so I stopped chanting. After commencing satseva, many worldly obstacles arose which reduced after stopping the satseva. Hence, I have not done the seven-deity experiment for chanting and have stopped doing any satseva. I also cannot perceive the chant I have to do after doing the experiment.”

If after starting to chant, the obstacles increase and if they reduce when chanting is stopped, one should assume it is a spiritual problem.

It is expected that seekers take appropriate steps, depending on the severity of their distress. Seekers should increase their prayers, chanting, satseva and try to overcome the obstacles. Stopping spiritual practice because of obstacles is akin to refusing surgery due to fear of it.

Those seekers who experience marked increase in their obstacles by doing prayers and chanting, and cannot obtain any chant after doing the experiment, should chant the Name of their Family deity and of Lord Datta to increase their spiritual practice.

Do not ignore children if distressing energies are creating
obstacles through them, instead take spiritual measures!
Currently, distressing energies are creating obstacles through little children. For example, little children not letting their parents do spiritual practice, creating obstacles in the parents’ satseva, falling sick frequently, etc. If the children are able to do the seven-deity experiment for the chant, then they should do it. Otherwise, parents should chant for their children. If the trouble through children is mild or medium, then six to nine rounds (malas) of the Name of the Family deity and of Lord Datta should be done. If the trouble is severe, six rounds of Lord Krishna’s Name, that is, ‘Om namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya’, should be done.

If one is not currently doing any spiritual practice, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of chanting or constantly remembering God's Name according to one's religion.

  • Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) can repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3 Clarification of Doubts section for details).
  • Those seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over a year or so can determine the appropriate chant for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
