Practical Guidance
    H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale conducts weekly satsangs in the various centers of the Sanatan throughout India. These encompass several topics, such as spiritual practice, Saints, Deities, the science of Spirituality, etc. Below are some of the points He shared with seekers in a recent satsang.

A seeker should possess spiritual knowledge along with devotion

It is not enough to have devotion towards God. A seeker also needs to have spiritual knowledge. When a seeker has these two attributes he can progress fast. A seeker can acquire spiritual knowledge if he posses curiosity and a yearning for God.

It is necessary to follow all three Paths – Action, Knowledge and Devotion – for spiritual progress

We should assign satseva to seekers as per their abilities. If a seeker has never performed a particular type of satseva, it becomes difficult for the seeker to do it. According to the Path of Action, paying attention to details, for example, ironing clothes perfectly, without a single wrinkle, is of great importance. A seeker on the path of Devotion should not think that ironing a shirt properly is of no importance to him, as he is not following the Path of Action. When the Paths of Action, Devotion and Knowledge merge, spiritual progress occurs. A seeker once asked me ‘What is the use of a lot of spiritual information given by sages? Many sages give information in a detailed quantified fashion but what is the use of such information to a spiritual aspirant?’ I had replied that this knowledge is not given for the sake of giving out some information. Knowledge cannot be differentiated from the action (which follows it). Eventually this knowledge will be used for some action. Knowledge is never useless
