Perceiving the subtle

Repeat (chant*) The Lord's Name for a couple of minutes to achieve some concentration of the mind. Then stop chanting and look at the following box and note your perception. The details of how to assess one's subtle perception of an object can be seen by clicking on this section's heading.

E-mail us your answers at the Weekly. (After trying the experiment, click on either the blank image or the text 'Figure A' to reveal the image.)

Answer to the last week's experiment (Issue 222):

Figure A had a picture, depicting the reverence for God in a Divine Kingdom (Ishwari Rajya). It would translate into reverence for Deities and anything sacred, as is depicted by a clean and well-kept altar, where Deities are worshipped with spiritual emotion. Whereas Figure B had a picture depicting the irreverence towards God in today’s society. Today, Deities and sacred symbols are worshipped on one hand and on the other hand, disrespected through irreverent comments, jokes, criticism, etc., in print and media (TV, plays, etc.). One feels Blissful looking at figure A and distressed looking at figure B.

Thus, to ensure a Blissful, progressive society, even on an individual level, it is not enough to just worship God privately, but peacefully but surely protest irreverence towards God or sacred objects.

*Constant remembrance or repetition of The Lord’s Name. When done mentally, it can be done anywhere and anytime, as it does not need purity of body, time or place. However, in the initial stages it is recommended that one start by sitting in one place for at least half an hour daily and repeat (chant) The Name of one’s Kuldevata or per their religion (refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for details on what Name to repeat according to one’s religion.) Those in the advanced stages and who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over one year are advised to determine The Name appropriate for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Messages to Seekers section.
