Messages for Seekers
For week ending May 1, 2004
Seekers, avoid mistakes!

“H. H. Dr. Athavale should not put forth to the seekers the viewpoint that, ‘We are humans, hence we make mistakes'. This encourages more mistakes. Instead He should say, ‘We have to become God, therefore avoid making mistakes, effortfully.”

-- Goddess Sri Durgadevi (through Sri Ramrushi, April 6, 2004).
Seekers’ journey should be from chanting aloud to chanting mentally

Chanting mentally
Chanting aloud
a. Introversion
Rapid
Comparatively slow
b. The journey from Vaikhari to Madhyama
Rapid
Slow
c. For the distressing energy to manifest and overcome it (%)
70
30
d. The amount of energy obtained from the Name
More
Less

Even though the individual chanting done mentally has so much importance, and if seekers’ individual chanting does not happen properly or if they are not chanting, then they should chant aloud. But seekers’ journey should be from chanting aloud to chanting mentally.

- Goddess Sri Durgadevi, (through Sri Ramrushi, August 30, 2003)
Seekers, offer holy sacrament to deity as per the tradition

As per science of Spirituality every deity is offered specific holy sacrament and accordingly this tradition is being followed till date. For example, Lord Ganesh is offered 21 modaks (sweetmeat). A deity gives a seeker some spiritual experience related to offering of specific holy sacrament. Since this spiritual experience relates only for the period of that particular occasion, it would be incorrect if others, too, offer the same holy sacrament or the person who got this spiritual experiences continues to offer the same holy sacrament every time. In one Sanatan’s satseva center, on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti, the holy sacrament of ‘Bhaji’ (an Indian snack made from gram flour) was offered. In reality Lord Hanuman likes pomegranate. One should avoid such mistakes.

Seekers, avoid unwarranted flattery of each other

A seeker’s bhav towards the Lord was 90% and other seekers were aware of this. They therefore started praising him unnecessarily. The concerned seeker fell a prey to flattery and started feeling pleased to hear his praise so much so that gradually he began to praise himself. Earlier he was close to the Lord but the unnecessary praise distanced him from The Lord. This led to an unfortunate situation where his Bhav towards the Lord drastically came down to 30% from 90% and his ego increased. Seekers should ponder over whether because of flattery by others or self-praise his spiritual practice is suffering an irreparable loss or not. It is hard to make good the loss in spiritual practice. In the present case, as his bhav is decreased tremendously and his ego has increased, the seeker will find it very difficult to regain the once-acquired 90% bhav towards the Lord. Seekers should note the following :

1.
Seekers should not compare the various aspects of their individual sadhana (i.e., Talmal, Bhav, etc.) with those of other seekers.
2.
Avoid unwarranted flattery. If anyone persists in praising or one gets the thoughts of self-praise in one’s mind, one should keep a Bhav that ‘ All this is happening due to the grace of the Lord. The doership lies with God .’
3.
Our goal is to achieve 100% bhav toward the Lord. Till we achieve this, all our actions should be directed towards helping each other in our spiritual practice.
* If one is not doing any spiritual practice currently, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of repeating (chanting) (constant remembrance of) God's Name as per one's religion. Refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for details on what Name to repeat according to one's religion. If one is already doing some spiritual practice, one can complement it with reptition (chanting) of The Lord's Name. Refer to Issue 23, Clarification of Doubts section for a diagrammatic explanation of how repeating (chanting) God's Name works. When done mentally, it can be done anywhere and anytime, as it does not need purity of body, time or place. However, in the initial stages it is recommended that one start by sitting in one place for at least half an hour daily and repeat (chant) The Lord's Name.
