Spiritual path

“I love the road and not those who I meet on the road, because there is no turning back for me. That is why I have lost.”

Implied Meaning:

‘I love the road’ means I love the spiritual path.

‘not those who I meet on the road’ means I do not pay attention to the obstacles in spiritual practice, supernatural powers, etc.

‘because there is no turning back for me’ means upon becoming one with the Name* and attaining Final Liberation I do not have to come back (into the cycle of life and death, as one has gone beyond death to eternal life).

‘That is why I have lost’ refers to the loss of ‘I’ ness or ego**, as one merges with God.

Thus, the above verse emphasizes the importance of focusing on spiritual practice and aim of God-realization on the spiritual path. One should stay steadfast, unfazed by obstacles and even supernatural powers that affect one as a by-product of spiritual progress.

* The Lord’s Name (that one chants or repeats as spiritual practice. In the final stages of spiritual practice, one attains oneness with The Name, The Lord’s unmanifest form).
