Understanding references to subtle phenomena
Question: The Marathi daily (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) carries news on subtle phenomena like the battle against distressing energies and publishes daily news about it. We do not always understand it. Could the subtle phenomena be written in a way that people can understand?
- A Reader, India.

Dear readers,

You can always e-mail us any specific examples of which particular articles or parts of articles on the subtle world that are not clear to you. We could then provide further explanation on it if possible. (A forum for inviting readers’ questions specifically to clarify any queries that readers may have on the subtle world, after reading the subtle news or articles in the Sanatan’s periodicals, is already in place in the Sanatan’s Daily Newspaper. )

A point to note regarding understanding news or articles on subtle phenomena, such as distressing energies, battle of Deities against distressing energies, etc., is that a keen subtle perception is necessary to completely understand them. Subtle perception is the ability to perceive with our subtle senses, that is perception without our gross five senses, mind and intellect. In this regard, the following points are noteworthy:

Most people grow up relying only on their gross perception, that is using the gross five senses, mind and intellect; hence, they do not even notice the subtle. Thus, explaining the subtle world to those whose subtle perception is not developed is akin to explaining to a blind man what the world looks like. He cannot understand it completely however much one may explain.
Subtle perception is developed only with spiritual practice. One’s subtle perception improves as one progresses spiritually with spiritual practice. To begin with, besides daily spiritual practice, one should exercise one's subtle perception by regularly performing subtle experiments (see Experiments of the Subtle Dimension section of any Issue of the Weekly Online for examples) even in day to day life to make better (sattvik) decisions. Please Refer to Issue 154 Practical Guidance Section for how to exercise and hone one’s subtle perception.

The Sanatan organization is publishing references to the subtle in the Weekly Online and the subtle news section in its Daily mainly to make society aware of the fact that there is also a ‘subtle world’. On reading them, some people may become curious and start doing spiritual practice, such as chanting*. Later as they progress, they will be able to experience the subtle world firsthand.

* Constant remembrance or repetition of The Lord's Name. Seekers in the initial stages of spiritual practice (less than one year) are advised to repeat The Name of the Lord as per their religion (refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for details). Those seekers who have been doing regular spiritual practice for over one year are advised to determine The Name appropriate for them from the experiment given in Issue 124, Message to Seekers section.
