Messages to Seekers
Messages for Seekers
For week ending April 10, 2004
Use the new diary format to monitor your spiritual practice every day

A new diary has been prepared for monitoring seekers’ daily satseva efforts. This proves useful because it is easier to review seekers’ efforts at repeating (chanting*) The Lord’s Name, satseva, personal work, satsang, auto-suggestion and other related matters. With the format, it has become easy to study the efficiency of seekers. For the purpose of review, seekers should form and work in pairs and review of each other’s diary, and hence efforts, on a daily basis. The table of the diary is as follows :

    Type of seva
1. Repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name Collective chanting
    Individual
    Chanting of Department
    Vastu chanting
2. Satsang Satsang
    Aarti
    Guidance by Saints
3. Ashram Cleanliness (of room, daily, collective)
Satseva relevant to Ashram (i.e., making preparations for Satsang, preparing breakfast, etc.)
Incidental Satseva (e.g., satseva of serving a saint, festival celebrations, Yadnya, etc.)
4. Individual Time for personal matters
    Breakfast
    Lunch
    Writing diary
Filling table of auto-suggestion and personality defects
    Sleep
5. Others Daily reading
    Discussion regarding difficulties
Others (e.g., giving lunch to the sick)
6. Wastage Time wasted in unnecessary matters

Note: An additional column may be provided for ‘Time taken for sateva’ and ‘Total time’. After every satseva, the time may be filled in.

Inform immediately if seekers experience distress on doing
repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name as prescribed by seekers from the Subtle Department

Seekers from the Subtle Department prescribe certain repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name to some seekers for specific purposes, such as to avoid attack on the Ashram or some seekers are told to do the repetitions as a remedy for another seeker who is suffering from severe trouble caused by distressing energies. If the seekers happen to experience distress either at the time of repeating (chanting) The Lord’s Name as prescribed by the Subtle Department, or after doing so, they should immediately bring the matter to the notice of Subtle Department.

Seekers repeating (chanting) The Lord’s Name for
half an hour have to be present at the time of aarti

In the Sanatan Centers where aarti is performed both in the morning and evening, seekers who have been prescribed to only do a half an hour of repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name per day, should be present at the aarti both the times.

In fact, the deities are subtly present at the time of the aarti. One would get immense benefit from the sattvikta caused from the presence of the deities, and it would help enhance one’s spiritual emotion (bhav). Seekers who oversee center activities should ensure the attendance of such seekers at the aartis.

Seekers should report difficulties and complaints to Dr. Ghali

The internal cleansing drive is coming to an end insofar as it concerns the old complaints. Under the drive, some seekers who previously oversaw center activities have been changed, with the satseva reassigned to new seekers. In the event that seekers have any complaints about them or face any difficulties in their satseva, they should inform Dr. Prakash Ghali who is presently on tour in Raigad district. His tour of Raigad district is from April 10 through 12, 2004.

Seekers from these districts should hand over their complaints in writing to the following local seekers :

District Area Seeker Contact Number
Mumbai Shri Bharat Patil 33984331
Thane Shri Sunil Phadtare 31074975
Raigad Shri Shrikrishna Upadhye 9819033213

Shri Ramesh Shinde (contact no. 32752711) or Shri Rajan Shinde (contact no. 32752577) can also be contacted.

* Though the tour of Thane and Mumbai is now completed, and that of Raigad will conclude on April 12, 2004, the difficulties of seekers still can be solved with prior planning.

Seekers, make the following changes
in the praise given at the end of the aarti

Henceforth we are required to give the following praise at the end of the aarti that is performed in the Sanatan’s centers:

“Param Pujya Bhakatraj Maharaj ki Jai”
“Prabhu Shri Ramachandra Maharaj ki Jai”
“Bajrangabali Hanuman ki Jai”
“Sri Durgadevi ki Jai”

It is not necessary to give praise in respect for other deities or saints. Seekers in charge of publicity should monitor that the praise as given above is taking place after the aarti in their respective Sanatan centers.

*The entire aarti without the above modification can be downloaded here.

Avoid the ten mistakes while doing satseva
and repeating (chanting) The Lord’s Name

Each seeker should try to do satseva and repeating (chanting) of The Lord’s Name without committing the ten mistakes. Doing satseva or repeating (chanting) The Lord’s Name while making mistakes is like filling water in a tank with holes. Every mistake is equivalent to a hole in the tank. Unless the holes are plugged, the water cannot be stored in the tank.

Our repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name and satseva will reach the God only if we make sincere efforts to do it flawlessly and devoid of the ten mistakes. Even if we make just one mistake, we have to suffer for it as per the law of karma (the theory of you-reap-as-you-sow, i.e., one will get the fruits of one’s own actions – good or bad). Therefore, each one should pay attention to whether one is making the following ten mistakes or not:

1. Defying the Guru.
2. Criticizing the monks.
3. Differentiating between the Lord’s Name, form and qualities.
4. Criticizing the holy texts like the Vedas, Science (spiritual), the Puranas.
5. Committing sins in the guise of the Lord’s Name.
6. Playing down the significance of Name, i.e., thinking that the significance of Name is purposely being emphasized unrealistically to develop liking for it.
7 . Spreading dogmatic views regarding the Lord’s Name.
8. Persistently telling a person to take the Lord’s Name despite the fact that he has neither the spiritual emotion nor faith nor the liking to give a patient hearing.
9. Forgetting to repeat (chant) The Lord’s Name.
10. Not keeping faith in the Lord’s Name despite knowing fully well the significance of His Name.
* If one is not doing any spiritual practice currently, one can begin with the simple, but powerful spiritual practice of repeating (chanting) (constant remembrance of) God's Name as per one's religion. Refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for details on what Name to repeat according to one's religion. If one is already doing some spiritual practice, one can complement it with reptition (chanting) of The Lord's Name. Refer to Issue 23, Clarification of Doubts section for a diagrammatic explanation of how repeating (chanting) God's Name works. When done mentally, it can be done anywhere and anytime, as it does not need purity of body, time or place. However, in the initial stages it is recommended that one start by sitting in one place for at least half an hour daily and repeat (chant) The Lord's Name.
