Actions/efforts to awaken spiritual emotion in an individual

(Continued from Issue 216)

To awaken spiritual emotion rapidly, initially one needs to make constant efforts at the level of the mind and intellect. In the last Issues, namely, 215 and 216, spiritual experiences resulting from prayer done with spiritual emotion were discussed. In this Issue, we will discuss few examples of how The Lord helps when one prays with spiritual emotion.

Perceiving the presence of H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale when offering something unto God/the Guru with spiritual emotion

1. On October 20, 2002, while praying before dinner I perceived that I was offering my meal unto H. H. Dr. Athavale and standing in front of Him with my hands folded in obeisance (namaskar).

- Mr. Manoj Gavkar, the Sanatan’s ashram in Dhamse (Goa), India.

2. On the evening of October 21, 2002, as I drank water and then tea, I felt as if I were doing so after actually offering it unto H. H. Dr. Athavale. In fact, I perceived H. H. Dr. Athavale releasing energy from His hand, bestowing blessings into my cup and me drinking the blessed beverage.
- Mr. Manoj Gavkar, the Sanatan’s ashram in Dhamse (Goa), India.

Seeing the Holy verse Ramaraksha in the heart and it being recited in the Madhyama mode of speech after praying unto H. H. Dr. Athavale:

On August 15, 2002, when I was reciting the Ramaraksha in front of the altar in the kitchen with my eyes closed, often seekers were passing by me. I earnestly prayed (mentally) unto H. H. Dr. Athavale, ‘O Lord Rama, You are in my heart. You Yourself are reciting the Ramaraksha through me.’ As I said this, I could see the lines of the Ramaraksha in my heart. I continued to recite the Ramaraksha seeing those lines. Since then, whenever I recite the Ramaraksha, my entire concentration is focused on my heart. I recite it with the spiritual emotion that my Lord Rama is within me. If even for a moment my attention strays from my heart, I cannot recite the Ramaraksha. After completing the recitation, I do not feel that I have said it in the Vaikhari mode of speech. I feel as if it is recited spontaneously through me.
- Ms. Mahananda Giridhar Patil,
The Sanatan’s satseva center in Sion (Mumbai), India.

In the next Issue, we will discuss errors in prayers.
