Clarification of Doubts
Worshipping the statue of Lord Ganesh with right-facing trunk

Question: My husband and I have received a statue of Lord Ganesh with the trunk facing right, as a gift. I have heard about Lord Ganesh with trunks facing different sides. Should we perform ritualistic worship of this statue? Is it possible that the statue could cause any distress?
- A reader.

    Dear Reader,

Unless a Saint or one’s Guru gives it, one should avoid worshipping a statue of Lord Ganesh with right-facing trunk for the following reasons:

The right-facing trunk is considered facing the south.
A statue of Lord Ganesh with such a trunk is not worshipped ritualistically in the usual manner, because frequencies with the raja component are emitted from the south. (The raja component is spiritually impure and distressing.)
One feels repulsed towards the south, because it is in that direction that after death scrutiny of sins and merits is done in Lord Yama’s region (Yamalok).

If the statue is just kept as is, without worshipping it, then it will not cause any distress.
