Losses incurred due to ego and
importance of dissolving ego for a seeker

Path of Action (Karmayoga) and ego:

Path of action means attainment of God through actions. When ‘I’ ness dissolves, merits and sins, accumulated account (sanchit), Destiny, willful action (actions attributed to oneself or the ‘I’), etc., too, cease to exist. Thus, a seeker on the path of Action cannot reach his goal without losing his ego.

Path of Devotion (Bhaktiyoga) and ego:

If one harbors ego, one encounters obstacles when undertaking periodic reading of Holy verses, fire sacrifices (yadnya), repetition (chanting*) of The Lord’s Name, etc.; otherwise obstacles are generally not encountered in such practices.

Energy of deities becomes operational with repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name, but the seeker is unable to receive its full benefit if he has ego. The episode narrated below clarifies this point.

‘Samsher’, a mantrik (a practitioner of mantra, generally for negative purposes) from the nether region (bhuvalok) was troubling Mr. Nitin Tagde, a seeker of Sanatan. Samsher commenced spiritual practice after getting advice from the seekers of the Sanatan’s Subtle Department. Upon commencing spiritual practice, Samsher offered his entire knowledge of mantras unto Lord Shiva. Thereafter, Sage Gautam who does spiritual practice in the subtle Himalaya** renamed him as (Sage) ‘Kaustubh’. Presently Sage Kaustubh, too, undertakes spiritual practice in the subtle Himalaya.

On June 26, 2003, Sage Kaustubh manifested in Mr. Nitin Tagde, a seeker of Sanatan, and imparted the following information.

"Presently when seekers repeat (chant) The Lord’s Name, 30% of the deities’ energy becomes operational. But the seekers get only 70% of it, that is a total of 21% of the deities’ energy. Their inability to absorb all the energy is due to their ego."

In the next Issue, we will discuss various losses due to ego and the importance of dissolving ego in a seeker.

* Constant remembrance or repetition of The Lord's Name (Seekers at the initial stage should chant the Name of the Kuldevata or the divine principle as per their religion; refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for a list of the Names of The Lord to repeat in various religions. Seekers in the advanced stage of spiritual practice can refer to Issue 124, Message to Seekers section to determine the Name appropriate for them to repeat.)

** For every gross object or region, there exists a subtle counterpart/equivalent.
