It is more important to develop qualities
of a seeker than achieve (gross) excellence in satseva

It is not so important to be able to do a particular satseva merely to (gross) perfection. However, it is of utmost importance to develop the qualities of a seeker through the satseva. For example, while performing the satseva of editing a newspaper article, it is more important to develop into a good seeker than to develop into a good editor.

This principle is applicable to any satseva. It is important to emphasize how to be a good seeker rather than the gross skills, such as of cooking or editing articles, needed for the satseva.

Some of the qualities of a good seeker are:

Not having unnecessary doubts about other seekers
Having a positive attitude
Constantly engaged in repeating (chanting*) The Lord’s Name and not being unnecessarily extroverted.

A seeker possessing such qualities is more valued by God than is a seeker who is skilled (merely in a gross way) at a particular satseva.

Refer to Issue 127, Clarification of Doubts section for a list of various qualities of a good seeker.

* Constant remembrance or repetition of The Lord's Name (Seekers at the initial stage should chant the Name of the Kuldevata or the divine principle as per their religion; refer to Issue 3, Clarification of Doubts section for a list of the Names of The Lord to repeat in various religions. Seekers in the advanced stage of spiritual practice can refer to Issue 124, Message to Seekers section to determine the Name appropriate for them to repeat.)
