we discussed the reasons for development of ego in spiritual life. In Issue 211, we
discussed development of ego according to the path of Spirituality. In this Issue
we will discuss losses incurred due to ego and importance
of dissolving
ego to an average person.
Losses incurred due to ego and the importance of dissolving ego
in an average person:

Unhappiness
due to ego
“If you say I am the doer, you will become unhappy.
If you say Lord Rama* is the doer, you will achieve success, fame and valor.” |

The more the ego, the less happy an individual.
If an individual harbors thoughts, such as ‘my wealth’, ‘my
body’, he becomes unhappy if the wealth depletes or if he
falls ill. However, such an individual will not feel so unhappy
if such tragedies strike another. Hence, the root cause of unhappiness
is not the loss of wealth, but the loss of ‘my’ wealth, ‘my’ health,
etc. Thus, the root cause stems from the ego.
Since psychiatric patients have high
ego, they are even less happy. Sometimes, psychological unhappiness
experienced due to
ego is more painful than physical
distress.
In contrast, Saints believe that everything belongs to God and
that They own nothing. Hence, They never become unhappy and are
always in Bliss.
In the next Issue, we will discuss some
more about losses incurred due to ego and importance of dissolving
ego in an average person. |
