Realization of shortcoming followed by immediate inspiration to increase repeating (chanting*) The Lord’s Name at work

One day at work, a few weeks ago, my repetition (chanting) of The Lord’s Name was occurring continuously for two to three hours. I was also able to pray regularly. As a result, I was experiencing a different kind of happiness. One student got annoyed with me when I asked him to follow occupational health and safety procedures in the computer laboratory. Immediately I called our manager, since I felt that the student was becoming confrontational. The student complained to the manager that I was rude and biased. Immediately I reacted and said that the student was lying. However, I reviewed the whole incident and realized that I should overcome the shortcoming of getting annoyed easily and reacting in such situations. I paid gratitude to H. H. Dr. Jayant Athavale for showing me my shortcoming. When I returned back from lunch break, my manager was waiting for me. He said that after the student left, other students said that I did not use any offensive language, and I am always polite to all students. He said that if you are good to others and repeat God's Name, God would help you. This encouraged me to repeat (chant) The Lord’s Name more at work, as I felt that it creates protective shield around me.

[Repeating (chanting) The Lord’s Name makes one more introverted, helping one to become aware of one’s shortcomings, such as incorrect reactions to worldly situations.

Realization that obstacles are nothing but yard sticks to measure one’s faith on God

Last month I had to quit my position to take up a junior position in my company due to constant interference by my immediate boss, which was affecting my spiritual practice. After starting in the junior position, I immediately surrendered the situation at Guru’s feet. However, as days passed, I was beginning to worry a little, even though I intellectually understood that end of the day that everything is happening only by Gurudev’s grace. After a few days, I came across news that was startling to me. The company had shut down the department where I had been working previously because of mismanagement, and all those who were working in the department, including my ex-boss, had to leave the company. So, if I had been working in that department, I would have also had to leave the company. I was so amazed by this situation, and it was so clear in my mind that the issue, which I had confronted initially and worried about, was nothing but the Guru’s way of saving my job. Another amazing thing happened which nearly swept me off my feet. I was offered my previous position back by the company. I learned from this whole situation that although many times we are confronted with obstacles, these obstacles are nothing but a yardstick to test our faith on the Guru.
- A Sanatan Seeker.
[Experiences such as these help develop the faith that God takes care of seekers’ worldly, as well as spiritual, problems. However, a seeker should not have any expectation of a particular result, but strive to do one’s best in all situations in life.
